It Was Only a Quarter!

After he arrived, he would ride the bus to visit nursing home. He discovered the driver gave him a quarter too much change. Considering what to do, he thought, "I'd better give it back. It would be wrong to keep it."Then he thought, "Oh, it's only a quarter. Who would worry about a quarter? the bus company does fine; they'll never miss it, accept it as a 'gift from God' and keep it."

When his stop came, he paused at the door, handed the quarter to the driver and said, "Here, you gave me too much change." The driver, with a smile, replied, "Aren't you the new preacher in town? I've been thinking about going somewhere to worship. I just wanted to see what you would do if I gave you too much change. I'll see you at church on Sunday." When the preacher stepped off of the bus, he literally grabbed the nearest light pole, and said, "Oh God, I almost sold your Son for a quarter."
Our lives are the only Bible some people will ever read." Remember this R&S :)

The last sentence, less your reminder, is absolutely true. Nevertheless God moves by his spoken word and the power of his presence; not ethics, morals or appearance. Walking around living a righteous life brings judgment on those who see it, but few change. Consider Lot and Sodom.

Most Christians realize that at one time or another they passed by Salvation for much less than a quarter; but his mercy is great and grace is free. Many in "churches" today are doing just that and paying ten per cent!

This is a feel good story for preachers. It makes them and their church look as if they have favor in God's sight. After all the bus driver and his family would have missed their only chance with Jesus! (Does it not say this of a truth).

This story has been making the rounds among different groups, denominational and non-denominational, without naming any church or state and even implying other churches and states. Would that not make those who tell the story liars?

Do you really think that God is going to loose any of his own for a quarter? This man did not come close to selling Jesus. He did come close to selling himself. If he turned around and told this event he is, like many pulpits today; inamoured with their own experience; among people who covet religious feelings and entertainment.

Stick with the last sentence and illustrate with Scripture. Be ready to speak what you walk with holy ghost power instead of emotional examples. Emotion has its place; but this story has to much orchestration.
