3. Plunge into boiling water for 1 or 2 mintues. or longer if you like the green beans softer.

I like to cut the ends off and saute them.
Heat olive oil in a pan on medium. Add chopped garlic and green beans (cut up if you want but I do them whole). Cover and cook for about 5 min. Add a little soy sauce and terriyaki sauce and fry for a few minutes until they're as soft as you like (I like crunchy). My 2 year old loves these.

The non-frozen kind?
Wash them well, trim off the stem and the tip, cut into even pieces, and either simmer or steam them in salted water until tender but still bright green.
My grandmother adds a touch of baking soda to the cooking water, it softens them faster.

you take and wash the green beans , break off the tips of them and then break them up and put them in a pot with salt pepper and seasoning meat then boil for 4 minutes at a rolling boil, decrease your temp to med heat then let cook till tender.

not dumb. just steam them dear.
lil water in the bottom of a cooking pot. snap off the tips of the beans. cut in half if really long. lil salt in the water. steam till they turn darker green (the color of canned beans) or till they are to your liking.

ALL THE ANSWERS HERE ARE CORRECT BUT BE SURE TO REMOVE STRINGS WHEN POPPING OFF ENDS IF ANY IT CAN MAKE THE BEANS HARD TO CHEW JUST POP THEM LOOKING FOR BAD SPOTS AND CHECKING FOR STRINGS AS I GO.WASH THEM IN COLD WATER WELL PUT INTO LARGE KETTLE AND PUT WATER IN JUST TO COVER THE BEANS THEN ON MED HEAT FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS I BOIL THEM ADDING SALT,PEPPER AND BACON AND A LITTLE GARLIC SALT, BE SURE TO CHECK ON THE WATER LEVEL AND TASTE GREEN BEAN AS THEY COOK I LIKE MINE SOFT VERSES CRUNCHY.YOU NEED TO ADD MORE WATER IF LEVEL GETS LOW.

As opposed to fake green beans?? :) I just throw mine in a pot of water and simmer them until they are soft. Then I drain the water off and throw a little butter and salt in them. REAL butter works the best (as opposed to margarine) .... :)

Break off both ends, then pop into about three pieces, rinse them well with cool water -using a collander. put them in a saucepan and cover with water, season with s+p, a little chopped onion and a little bacon grease or butter, simmer till tender, about 20 min.

How do you want them?
You can boil them, fry them, steam them or bake them.
I like to bake them. Boil first for about 5 minutes. Take them out and place them in a baking dish with mushrooms and a little lemon juice over the top. Bake @ 300 degrees F for about 20 minutes.
