I've seen a lot of comments in here stating that certain symbols (ankh, pentacle etc.) are against god. On the other hand, the cross has been adopted to represent the god of Abraham. If any symbol would be displeasing to the Abrahamic god or to Yeshua, it would make sense that it would be a cross, since that is what Yeshua was suppose to have been crucified on. Enlighten me as to how this silliness came about. Most of these symbols are far older than the various beliefs that use them, so what is it that makes them good or bad?

it's all about what people associate it with. a swastika appeared long before hitler in all kinds of designs, like navajo blankets, but when i see a swastika, i think "nazi" not "navajo"

it's just about what it's most popularly associated with and how people view that thing.

I eschew symbols for pretty much this reason: a symbol means only what is assigned to it by each person.

I couldn't care less if some boob wants to think a symbol offends his imaginary friend, but if I am trying to communicate a message, a symbol won't do it. Even the most clear-cut symbols mean different things to different people.

Take the HD logo, for example. To some, it's a symbol of freedom, of the enjoyment you get from cruising the backroads with the wind flowing by. To others, it represents outlaw behavior, heightened by a bunch of old movies that represented riders as outcasts. To some, it represents the corporate sellout of the outlaw image, as the prices of Harleys have risen far beyond what the typical blue-collar worker can reasonably afford, and Harley licenses the logo on damn neasr anything, including panties.

Nope, no symbols for me, unless I'm doing math.

Atheism is beyond symbols/symbolisms. It's not an organization but a form of truth. We don't need a symbol to acknowledge reality. We don't need to symbolize our unity because the truth is our unity. Just the fact that we know the truth is more than good enough, if it isn't then you are not really an Atheist. Atheists do not need validation, a symbol is only good for putting things into a higher light or onto a pedastal. That's not what Atheism is about, it's about truth. A symbol would ruin it because symbols are false by nature. Let the theists who need symbols to validate their false beliefs keep their symbols. We don't need it, want it, nor have any use for it.

Christians have used the Ankh or Crux Ansata as the Cross of Life sinceJesus died i on the cross togive us eternal life. The Ankh with "bent arrows' on the botton becomes an anchor which also is a symbol of hope.
The Upright Pentacle can be a symbol of fidelity
The Latin(or Greek"equal armed") Cross reminds us that Jesus, God Incarnate, died on it for us turning an emblem of shame into our glory.

The cross is the emblem for salvation and Jesus knew He had to die on the cross to redeem us to God. The cross also represents the forgiveness of sin.
