Uh, know what makes me giddy? Not "gitty", but giddy? When people learn English! :)

I think you're asking do we as Christians get excited when it thunders and lightenings because we think God is up there with a flashlight and a couple of trash can lids putting on a show for us? If that was the case, then probably not. We do understand the scientific nature of thunder and lightening like we learned in the 4th grade. We just appreciate the beauty of everything God creates and puts into our lives!
