They don't know. They haven't even decided if there was one universal flood. So until they do, everything is speculation.

No. The flood was large and LOCAL. There is more than one flood story. Noah's story was taken from a Sumerian story about a man named Giglamesh. I think the story was made up as a historical account of flooding that occurred much earlier than Noah's time. Man put spiritual meaning to it.

noah and his family were not the only suriving humans on the planet. this is taught in error by poor scholars.
native americans, chinese etc...all have the narrative of the flood because they lived through it.
the flood was sent to the "Cosmos" which can mean a region and not the "eretz" which is the entire globe. the flood was sent mainly to destroy the offspring of the fallen or the giants as genesis 6 makes quite clear.
noah was chosen to preserve the lineage of messiah from adam. he was "perfect in his generations" or pedigree to preserve the lineage.
many critters around the globe survived on various parts of the planet that were not competely under water. critters from that geographical area were preserved. get it?

Yes. It is Impossible for any others to have lived long after. Note~! The bible says that once man was striving again, I believe after the Flood, he scattered their languages, skin tones etc. Because of what they were trying to build. Make sense?

There's a legend which says that Og the giant held on to the ark during the flood and survived.
I love that story.

They were the only land-based animals to survive. He didn't, after all, take any aquatic animals on board with him.

The book of Genesis is not to be taken literally. There's a lot of symbolism.
