Are you judging them based on the actions of a few?

I find most of them to be rather pleasant.

People are often afraid of what they do not know. They even go so far as to letting their ignorance take over. Even if they know that there is a truth out there that may shine a positive light on Islam, they will refuse to acknowledge. They LIKE disliking Muslims. They adopt their television sets as their teachers, and will accept anything they hear about a religion they know little to nothing about as truth. They use out of context verses to serve their own purpose, and care not about the truth. They are satisfied with this "truth" they know of, and refuse to change their minds. The media supplies misleading information that often targets Muslims and Islam. Terrorism is against Islam; so are forced conversions, suicides, and virtually everything else you hear about on the news or read in the newspaper. It is not fair how the bias media can mass manipulate the minds of ignorant people of the west. Muslims denounce terrorism, violence, hate, etc., but the media will never let this be known, once again giving the impression that Islam condones these things, when it absolutely does not. Islam truly is a religion of peace, but no one will ever get THAT impression, will they?

Karen G:

That was a backwards ANSWER. Wow, nice effort tho. I can't believe you're trying to say that Muslims use a tactic such that they try to convince people that Islam is good so that you can join. No, we are simply trying to educate the world on Islam and eradicate the ignorance bestowed upon it. They do the converting on their own. Just because Islam is a victim of bias and ignorance in today's world doesn't mean that when we defend it with the truth that we are using this tactic you speak of. Besides, last time I checked, Christians are using the exact tactic you speak of. Read what you wrote again, and think... (not meant to offend Christians)

Islam is rather unpopular amongst many westerners due to recent events involving terrorism. A lot of westerners don't know a whole lot about Islam or Muslims. So, a lot of assumptions have been made that have led to unpleasantness.

Also, some people have had unpleasant encounters with Muslims that were primarily due to differences in cultural attitudes. Some Muslim immigrants to Western cultures have difficulty adjusting to Western norms, (or they simply refuse to do so). This will, of course, result in bad feelings. A lot of Westerners that have had this type of experience feel that Muslims have a tendency to try and force others to live according to Muslim beliefs. This is especially true in regards to exposed skin on women and alcohol.

Oh another thing - most people aren't real knowledgeable about history, or even current events. There is a perception that almost all the terrorists in the world are Muslims. This is simply due to the news that is currently getting the most attention. However, if you look carefully at history, even recent history, it would be very difficult to find some ethnic group that hadn't produced some people involved in terrorist activities of one sort or another.

Why, thank you emperor space guy!

Some people can't put current world events into perspective, much less all of history. Therefore, they are doomed to be carried away by hysteria. It's a little scary if you think about it; how easily swayed people are toward prejudice. I realize that goes for Muslims too, BTW.

Does anyone on R&S remember how "evil" the Jews were pre-Holocaust, or the Japanese, or the Germans- just to list a few examples of groups commonly demonized in America in the last century? Notice how Americans get along with all of them just fine now? I have no doubt that the same will happen with Muslims down the road, if the wackos on both sides don't see to it that the whole world is blown up first.

EDIT: Taqiyah which Karen G. mentioned is an accepted practice by the Shia minority, but not the Sunni majority. They use it on us Sunnis too!

Most people take (judgement) into their own hand. It is not our job to judge other people, we are all equal in eyes of God, God has given the right to judge to Jesus, because he came and die as a perfect human. We JW preach to all the people around the world, because we believe there is only one God and Jesus said that as christian we must do so, but we don't judge other people for their belief.

It's because they are a part of the most offensive religion on Earth at this time.

And it's not only a few. Entire nations of Muslims exercise death for people. Some Arab, some Persian, but all violent against those who dissent. Even to the islands to the East.

Thanx. U cant really pick on something you dont know much about. And most people who call muslims terrorists dont know anything. They take a sentence out of context and then make up a saying.
The TRUE muslims, the ones who follow Islam correctly r pleasent and peaceful.

I find most Muslims to be pleasant people too. I am critical of Islam, not Muslims. I am equally critical of Christianity.

I do not judge all of the people for the actions of a few, but I do judge the Koran a failure for inspiring a considerable percentage to violence, and doing nothing to dissuade them.

BLAHBLAH: Wrong. "Islam" does not mean peace (as if a title equals reality anyway)
Poorly educated Muslims sometimes claim that the root word of Islam is “al-Salaam,” which is “peace” in Arabic. That is false. The root word for Islam is “al-Silm,” which means “submission” or “surrender.” Any properly educated Imam will tell you the same.

You're right, some people do base us on the actions of a few. God willing, this racism and intolerance will stop one day.

Peace.
