It depends on whether you go having signed a specific contract for a specific job in the army (if that's the case, they have to be sure that a slot is open for you in that particular field), or if you just went in under a general contract (meaning that they can put you in ANY job that they need a warm body for). My best advice (especially if you've got really high ASVAB scores) would be to not sign anything until they can produce a contract that guarantees you the job you want to do. Sometimes it can take months before you leave for basic training (sometimes up to a year) if you're under a guaranteed contract. If you go under a general contract, chances are you're going to go to basic training pretty quickly (depending on how quickly they get you in for physical and psychological testing and you're accepted).
Good luck! I hope this was helpful. I can say when I went into service in the1990's, the Army was not willing to guarantee me a contract for the job that I wanted. But the Air Force was. So I signed on with the Air Force (it took them 8 months to send me to basic training because they had to wait for the job slot to open up) and wound up doing something I really loved. Do your research first!! Don't get suckered by a recruiter that tries to get you to sign a general contract, but says "Don't worry. You'll still be able to get the job you want." ALWAYS get it in writing!!!!

It depends buddy, if you graduated high school or GED training in can be a month to 2weeks, If your still in school, it will be shortly after you graduate high school. I joined when I was 17. And I waited for a year to graduate and 3 days after high school graduation, I left for Fort jackson, SC ( Army basic).
Think it over first buddy. I gurantee after basic you will get deployed to Iraq. I like the Army and I've been to Kuwait. But I know I'm going to Iraq soon. Just think it over first, and don't let the recruiter BS you.

heck, especially now when they need to meet their recruiting goals, they will quickstep through the paperwork, and get you to MEPS real quick.
Like in a few days if you were really motivated.
Getting you in and when you wouldstart basic training are two different things.
They'll ship you out to inprocessing station, but youll gathering your issue, filling out paperwork until the next basic training class starts.
Thats when the real fun begins.
Just remember Basic training isnt hard if you r dont have an attitude, and remember that youre serving your country,
Good luck!

whenever they have room for you they will give you a date and ship you off as soon as possible.
you still have to take all these test, get shots, background check, and make sure youre ready and meet the requirements to even go to basic training.
you wouldn't have to wait years or anything. it could be 2 weeks it could be 2 months.
your recruiter will let you know.
