Ok i have an older pc i am repairing just to see if i can do it. I recived an error message that said "fan failed shutting pc down in 5 seconds." The pc has only 1 fan in it, and considering it smelled seriously burnt, i ordered a new one from new egg. I got the new one today and added the heat compound and installed it only to get the same pc fan failed message. Now what??

Sorry, But I think you have some extra money, and you do not where to spend.
Give the extra money to some body who need it most
Recycle your computer,
It may sound rude, but truth always sounds like that

Ok Take off side panel and see if there are vid jumpers. Vid jumpers allow you to adjust voltage to the cpu Decreasing voltage decreases heat .Decrease voltage slightly! Check to see if theres another connection for a fan on the mother board if so plug one in .Put a house fan right next to it on high This should give you time to get into bios to unable temp or fan check in bios. unplug power and let sit for ten min before each attempt. Let fan blow. If you can move it close to an air conditioner or register vent do it. You need to keep it cool to give you time to get into bios! If its an amd your chances are better. Old amds' were built to take more heat than pentiums. Thats where over clocking came from.If your getting post and video the cpu aint dead yet but could be close to it. I know what you mean when you say " to see if I can do it" Youll learn the basics and all computers are just extensions from the basics What is the proccessor type and speed? That will tell us whats in the case instead of just guessing at it.

Try adding another fan... a system fan. The problem could be that the processor is still over heating and adding another fan in the case could save the computer and maybe solve the problem.
Another possible reason could be that the processot is messed up now that's why it's so sensitive to heat. Basically just make sure you atleast have two working fans in the system and get a program that can monitor the CPU and systems temperature. Try searching them on Google or Yahoo!.
Good luck

depends on which fan is causing the problem
You have the main power supply fan if its that one there will be no sound or air coming from it and it will need replacing.
The other fan is the one on the cpu if this gets faulty or stops your cpu will get overheated and can cause a lot of problems
if this is the case switch off your pc immediately and get a new heatsink/fan
You might even have other fans in the pc a case fan or one on your video card etc
replace the one thats faulty.
get a seperate case fan
If its the cpu fan check that your motherboard as not blown and your cpu is ok

appears like a ability difficulty. make confident it extremely is plugged in, the exterior fuse has no longer blown (if it has one). For a computer, eliminate the outer cover and confirm that the followers are not on and there are not any led lights on the motherboard. If each thing continues to be off, then i could suspect the flexibility grant. those are basic and decrease priced to activate maximum structures. For a computing gadget, attempt the flexibility grant with a voltmeter. If nonetheless uncertain borrow or purchase a alternative playstation start up from there.

you might have gotten a new fan with a bad sensor in it, or the old fan could have fried the pickup on the motherboard.

Have you checked the fan in the power supply, it may be the one at fault.
