Notice how the user "Thetaalways" has made the mistake of assuming "popularity = validity"? She forgets that no matter the number of adherents, a cult is still a cult, and Scientology is most certainly a CULT.
You're right, they ARE a dangerous, scamming rip-off. Those within the cult are conditioned to ignore all proof that they are, in fact, involved in a cult. They're actually programmed to assume that anyone who isn't with them is "against them". I've actually received email from a Scientologist demanding to know what crimes I've committed because "obviously" if I oppose Scientology, I must be a criminal with something to hide. THAT'S their mentality.
I would never join, not even if I lived for a million years. I would never even consider joining. I have much better things to do with my time than PAY for a cult to brainwash me.

I joined the Church because I could see how much they were doing to help people.
I have not found them crazy or dangerous.
There has been no point where I was ripped off.

they're brainwashed.
people who join the church don't even realize at first that they've joined the church. they attack people with low self-esteem and make them feel like shite and then charge them thousands of dollars to take improvement courses, which are really just more brainwashing techniques. and then when none of that works, they tell them that they have the answer--that it's not their fault after all and that the church of scientology says this.
by this point (it's been months), people's self-esteem is so shot that they're willing to do anything to help themselves feel better.
they don't find out about the aliens until they've been in the church for 15-20 years.
so no, they're not crazy. they're brainwashed. they're innocent people who have been emotionally abused.

Hmm.... well logically there must be something fundementally incorrect will YOUR assumptions and accusations about this religion since so MANY people have joined and are joining.
Unless of course you also consider most people who join other religions are crazy too.
