when we wanted our daughters to give up their binkies (dummies) the "Binky Fairy" came and took all of binkies and left them each a 'big girl' prize that she had been wanting. Find something your daughter would REALLY like to have and explain that when she' ready to give up binky then the Binky Fairy will come and exchange with her.

You need to work with her. Think about what comfort this represents for her; think how you would feel if something that helped you feel better/more secure were taken away. How could you soften the blow? You can't just tell a three year old to suck it up and deal!
Why do you want her to get rid of it? If it is because she is getting older and "shouldn't" need it anymore, you need to discuss this with her. It could be the sign that she is a confident big girl now. If you have a friend who just had a baby, you could have your daughter "gift" the pacifier to the new baby. If she doesn't buy into the change, it's going to be difficult. She may start sucking a thumb, or biting nails, later. Maybe you can strike a compromise, like she can use it at naptime and quiet time till she's three and a half.

It all depends on the child.
My twins are 2...one is a thumb sucker the other a binky. The thumb sucker only sucks when she is scared or tired but my binky sucker is she doesn't have it then she eat (literally) her shirts and anything else.
But the binky fairy idea works my nephew gave all his binkys to my little girls when they were born. Although now he is caught once in a while hiding under the sofa sucking on a binky.
Basically only keep 2 if you don't want to go cold turkey and tell her she can only have them when she is napping/sleeping.

There is no Mommy Law that says kids have to give these things up by a certain age. Before you decide she HAS to be rid of it, try to figure out if there is some reason she needs to have it. Is there some sort of stress in her life?

If not, remember that kids will often grow right out of things. If it were me, I would let her have it all the time. Chances are, if she knows that it's not an issue of contention between the two of you, she'll probably give it up pretty quickly all on her own.

I started a little younger, but I just talked to my daughter a lot and asked her to respond to me. She couldn't have it in her mouth while she was talking. The other thing that helped is my daughter loves music, so I got her various party items that you blow through -- little harmonicas, plastic horns, those frilly paper things that roll out when you blow on them. It was a little noisy, but she got a kick out of that stuff. She carried a harmonica with her everywhere, and when she blew on that, the dog would howl and she thought that was so funny!

You know about the only thing you can do is throw them away when she isnt awake. Tell her they are lost - as long as you threw all of them away you are fine. She may search for them for a while but she will adjust to life without binky.
Also remember to avoid the baby aisle in the store so she cant see them displayed!!!

My mom "accidentally" left it at our relative's house while we were visiting to get my sister off it. My sister was upset at first but eventually got the idea it was gone and she got over it.
