Personally, I don't mind it. People will do and behave as they wish.
In the past it was meant as it was X as in Christ, but these days it is meant to ridicule. Taking out the word Christ as these days you will be frowned upon as in if you say Merry Christmas, they say you should say Happy holiday instead. In some words PC.

It's only because people like to get worked up for nothing, and spread the word that others are trying to "take Christ out of Christianity/Christmas". I remember being told this all the time, when I was innocently trying to abbreviate the word so I could get on with my writing. I am a Christian and it doesn't bother me at all, and makes perfect sense. After all, if I were trying to take Christ out of those things, I probably wouldn't be acknowledging Him by writing the word at all.

I think the "X" in the abbreviation has been interpreted to mean that the person using it was trying to take Christ out. In fact, the "x" in Greek is the first letter of "Christ." As a Christian, I have no problem with it.

Greek, and yes, I am familiar with that. The only reason I don't "like" its use that it looks sloppy and lazy to me. But when I'm making notes or shorthand or whatever that is for my use only, I will use the Chi-Ro (P with an X through the base, see picture in link below) for expedency sake.

this doesnt really bother me, but a religion teacher who was very catholic told the class that if you remove Christ and just use Xian, the IAN at the end stands for I Am Nothing.

Jewish stores started the practice some 50 years ago to show their dislike for Christ. They unserted the unknown x so they wouldn't have to look at the despised name of Christ.

They are ignorant as to its meaning.
Greek Monks started it- it's a chi..X...
It's like G-d instead of god.
I think Christians offended by it are hilarious.
The only thing more hillarious is comparing the "War on Christmas" from about 5 years ago, where Christians were protesting Santa and Trees as needing to be separated from their sacred day and today, when if someone calls it a holiday tree, they are antiChristian.
I can't decide whether they are whiney attention whores, intentionally ignorant or just brain damaged.
