Can I use a regular "human" fingernail clipper to trim a dog's nails?

The only time I use regular nail clippers is when I trim the nails on the very young puppies( when they start to scratch the mother dog when nursing). When they get bigger you will need to use the clippers for dogs.

no, use a professional type clipper. make sure not to cut too high or the nail will bleed. some clippers have a "stop" attached to them so you can only take off a little bit at a time. have a groomer or vet show you the best way to trim the nails so you don't injure the pet.

If it is a small nail, like a puppy's. I use human ones exclusively on the young puppies, as the larger dog specific ones tend to pinch the puppies' pads. Just be sure you've been taught about how to clip them safely. I also use people nail clippers for cats and ferrets. Works SO much better.

We have small dogs & I clip their nails with toenail clippers. For the larger breeds we had, I used dog nail clippers. Yes, be careful so as not to go too far & hit a vein. It's awful & scary! Blood squirts out everywhere & seems as though it'll never stop - like the dog will bleed to death. Know what you're doing

It depends on how big the dogs paws are if its a big breed dog the human nail clipper wont cut its nails most likely the human nail clipper will break.

I do this all the time. I have a convex toenail clipper that I use on my dog's nails - especially in the winter.

Nails are insensitive to being clipped - it's the quick that can get hurt. So be careful.

Be VERY careful not to cut the quick - it will bleed profusely. It's easier to see if his toes are white - but you can more or less tell where the quick is - just be careful - even if you use doggie-clippers - be careful.

No. The dog's nails may crack and split causing the dog pain and discomfort. Invest in a good set of nail clippers since you will be doing this for the rest of your pet's life.

it depends on what size dog. I use regular human nail trimmers on my cat, but then again, she has small nails. If it is a small dog or a puppy, it should be fine, but the bigger the dog is, the bigger the clippers need to be.

Nope you need to get some dog ones that will help you trim the claw where you are supposed to. Otherwise the dog may move and you may cut too deep causing the dog pain much like an ingrown toenail on a human. If you are unsure how to clip nails consult a vet or bring the dog to a groomers.

I clip my pitbulls nails with a regular toenail clipper. The secret is too start early, only clip a small amt and watch for the vein that runs in their nails.
