For me, Dinner and a Movie are a great way to meet, get used to being around each other without invading each others space.
And- If things are going well - follow it up with a moonlight walk on the beach as you talk and get to know each other! A perfect night!
A cooking class would be a great date, but l think it's better for a latter time... second at the soonest. By then you've talked about foods, and are familiar with each other a little.
Dance, is more intimate, and would be a great relationship builder!
I love all Three of the above!
PS- Remember that they're all also very good for 1,000th dates too! ;) Build it to last, and there will never be another 1st date! (unless someone gets amnesia)

A dance class together. It's fun and you'll learn a skill for life, be together weekly, and have something in common after class. You can take someone else for lesson two. Cooking is work and you'll have plenty of time for that. On the beach theirs nothing to do but get into trouble and dinner and a movie is what you'll be doing anyway unless you break it up with a night out dancing once in a while.

Probably none of the above. How about just meeting for lunch since you don't know the person anyway? Lunch always gives you an easy out if the person turns out to be not at all what you are looking for. You don't want to get caught up in a long drawn out process if you are not feeling the vibe. Movies are a horrible first date because you can't even talk to the person.
I think out of all of them a walk on the beach is the best, but that's only if you like them. You never know on the first date who you are dealing with and you don't want to be on the beach alone with the creepo at night.

i'd hesitate between the dinner+movie and the moonlight walk on the beach ..i guess i chose the dinner ..because the moonlight walk ..you wanna do that with someone who's romantic and you can't figure out about that only after the first date ..

Dinner and a movie, not very romantic but a great way to learn about each others personalities.
