Why does LimeWire host so many downloads? I downloaded it, and searched for the trial of corel paint shop pro X, and I got Microsoft Office 2007 FULL edition? And also a bunch of other things, that are REALLY illegal. Why does limewire have so many of these? And my friend told me downloading almost anything from there will give me at LEAST one trojan. Is this true?

Corel doesn't let host PSPX for download anymore. Only PSP XI, I'm used to PSPX.

Limewire is a peer to peer file sharing service. Basically the way it works is that when you run limewire a folder on your computer is shared with everyone else on limewire. Any thing you put in that folder can be downloaded by anyone else.

There is no way to know if a file coming from limewire is safe of not. The only thing you can do is download it and run it.

So, if you were Microsoft or say Atlantic Record Company or FOX movies or something - and you can't control limewire, what are your options. You might turn up a limewire node and purposely put infected files on it for people to download. Once somebody gets burned bad enough, they won't use limewire again.

Limewire is meant for people to share files they own (maybe bands that want to make a name, authors or other things like that), however, people use it to share things they don't own the rights to (Why are you using limewire anyway?...if the trial version is free, you should be able to get it from their website.) I don't know why limewire doesn't get rid of the illegal stuff (personally, i don't think they care). If you know what you are downloading, you sould not get any viruses, trojans. To be safe, look at the file format and be careful if its a zip or other type of compressed file, as those are most likely to contain malicious files.

It's a filesharing client. People tend to use those for less-than-legal purposes, given the opportunity. If you need legitimate trials for software, you might try to the website of the software company. adobe.com has free trials of all of their software, for instance (Photoshop, Acrobat, etc.)

And yes, many of the files on Limewire carry malware of one type or another.

Almost every P2P program will have full versions of anything, some are better than others. That's the whole point of P2P (Peer-to-peer), although not the intention of the company that makes the software.

Most of the time, trials are found on the company's site.

Do not use limewire to download programs, most of them if you do it will have a trojan.
