Indeed. I find it strange that people can justify "chinese-menuifying" their religions, picking and choosing which passages to follow.

You obviously haven't talked to the Christians that I have talked to! lol
What is done is they pick certain parts of the Law to follow. The others are either declared not doable: as in those which are sacrifices at the temple, or ignored.
But I think that you have something in common with those Christians. You expect there to be an adherance to the Law of Moses. But that would mean that Romans 3 was not understood.
19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. 20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.
So I am not under the Law of Moses. I do not try to do it. Because if I was to do it, I would have to do it all, every one of the 613 Laws, or be cursed by God.
Since I am not about to think that I can defy all of history where every single person who tried to live by the Law failed, except Jesus, I will instead claim His promise of salvation through faith. Which is what God had intended from the beginning.

You have to recognize two kinds of creationists. The first is the fundamentalist creationist who believes in the literal interpretation of the Genesis narrative in the OT and therefor have to reject any notion of the Big Bag process of which evolution of life on earth is a subset. The second is the liberal creationist who believes that there is God who created everything else and may have used the Big Bang mechanism to do flesh out his Divine Will.
The moral messages in the bible (OT and NT) are meant for all people for all time provide you don't take the narrative dressings too literally.

You are dealing with people who think that the ONLY way to observe the Bible is through a LITERAL meaning. They don't realize that this makes it contradict itself right and left, and you are right about Mosaic Law - some of the punishments for the Ten Commandments being broken are DEATH - but they seem to be ignoring that. It really boils down to they believe what they believe and that is that - don't try to confuse them with the facts because they have already made up their minds.

Don't forget the silly dietary laws and the greatly inhuman stoning laws most christians don't seem to know exist in the old testament.

I don't ignore the basic laws on how to treat each other.
It's all the bs stories about being faithful to 'god' no matter how bad it gets, etc, etc..
Watch the Science Channel some time, all of Creation goes on and on, the Creator is just watching us at best. Heaven and Hell are ideas to comfort us. ex; I had a horrible life, but stayed faithful, so I get to go to heaven./ He was a mean person so he gonna get his in the end. Think about that; 'eternity' in hell just b/c you were not a nice person. That's insane.

Hard to get past what you're taught as a child.
Most Christians I know have a belief that with Christ came a new covenant that superceeds all the previous ones. Thus, the older stuff is useful, but not commanded per se.
I actually agree with you that it's a huge inconsitency. One which no one I know has any kind of solid answer for.

The Mosaic Law is not ignored - It just is that in the New Testament when God took the punishment for our sins, we no longer had to make the sacrifices or follow the same laws as the Old Testament. You are totally missing the boat!

I just stopped looking for any kind of logic or reason in Creationist arguments. It's a waste of time.
Wait for the influx of biblical quotes to "prove" points...
