Cognitive dissonance is a psychological term which describes the uncomfortable tension that may result from having two conflicting thoughts at the same time, or from engaging in behavior that conflicts with one's beliefs.

Example: You know there is no evidence for large cities full of ancient Jews in America, yet you believe it anyway. This causes cognitive dissonance.

I am a Mormon and there is no cognitive dissonance involved in my beliefs.

Anyone who believes in the stories of the Bible should have absolutely no problem believing in Mormonism. We just happen to believe that God doesn't change, so we aren't suprised that he can still send angels, prophets, and miracles in the modern world.

If you think Mormons are crazy, then you must also conclude that all who truly believe in the Bible are just as crazy. But then Mormons have much more evidence to support their religion than does the average Christian, so it is even easier to be Mormon than to be of other religions.

I am a graduate student and am very familiar with my own beliefs and also the beliefs of other religions. I have no reservations about my faith's claims and am constantly amazed by how true and wonderful my religion is.

I managed by cognitive dissonance by leaving what was causing it (mainline, orthodox, traditional Christianity) and joining the LDS church.

The key is there is no conflict of thoughts.

26 And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ.........
(Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 25:26)

29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
(New Testament | John 20:29)

I think the most problem we have is,that people like you , assuming we have problems that you think we have.

why do you ask stupid questions? Everything we believe makes perfect sense, you've got to start from the basics, instead of diving deep into the doctrine.

Wannabe - the more popular term might be "Thinking outside the box" or in this case '..outside the Chapel'.

Try '¿Cómo manejo la enseñanza que está en conflicto?'

Anyway the answer is simple: Jeff Lindsay hasn't revealed that to us yet.
