to be fair I dont see it at all. I do see two types of responses to questions that people write.

1) Fundie/Evangelical
2) Non- religious
3) Catholic

Not the Catholics tend to accross as articulate and genuine. There seems to be a lot of sense and reason in their posts.

The atheists while I would disagree with them are either pro or con but tend to have their opinion and yet be tollerant of other peoples.

The Fundies tend to spout out a out of context bible quote. They rend to use antagonistic language that would be classed as Catholic bashing but to be fair they come across at best as ignorant.

I dont think there has been a response from one of them that could be classed in any way as authorititive at all.

Truly, the bashing on here is about equal. It spreads to all religious beliefs, or lack there of. While some days it seems to be a little more Catholic than others; I have seen days where Jews, Jehovah's Witness, and Mormons aren't given much room to breathe. I can not complain. Not everyone agrees with me. It's a cycle on here, and soon we'll just move around to something else.

Yes I do. I am a Catholic, and have posted several questions, asking for THOUGHTFUL responses. I do get some thoughtful responses, but I also get some rude hatefiul ones. Anti-Catholicism is the last ACCEPTABLE prejudice in this country. Just watch a movie like The DiVinci Code, or better yet, watch the news and how they twist pedafile cases way out of proportion.

I think your definition of Catholic-bashing is a tad too liberal. When someone tells me that I'm going to Hell just because of my church affiliation, that goes well beyond the bounds of mere ignorance and into the realm of prejudice.

I've also got a file folder full of mail from those in this Forum who feel that it's perfectly OK to spew their hatred of me simply because I defend my faith. Again, I think that comes under the category of bigotry, not ignorance.

(Incidentally, that's why my email is now closed: I got tired of "feeling the love" around here every time I got a new message.)

Ignorance is when someone demands that I give them "Scriptural proof" to support my beliefs, then refuses to accept them and tells me that I'm misquoting the Bible. Ignorance is when Catholics are falsely accused of worshipping statues, putting the Blessed Virgin above God, or any of the other misconceptions that people have about our beliefs.

But spewing hatred of Catholics and Catholicism exceeds the limits of ignorance and falls squarely into the subject headings of "Prejudice" and "Bigotry."

Without question there is Catholic-bashing on this site, but Catholics are not being singled out. Atheists, Jehovah's Witnesses, LDS, Muslims, and fundamentalist Christians are targeted just as frequently. That's just part of discussions amidst such diversity.

Yes, I have seen Catholic bashing on this site. But it's not just that; I've seen just about every religion get bashed. It seems to come in waves. As for repsonses, I've seen from all three of your groups responses that have been intelligent, ignorant, and inflamatory.

Where were you last week? It was open season on Catholics here.

It goes in waves. Sometimes it's driven by headlines and at other times it gets started by one questioner and others keep the ball rolling. But anti-Catholicism is one of the biggies here, right behind atheist vs. Christian/Christian vs. atheist questions.

"There are not more than 100 people in the world who truly hate the Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they perceive to be the Catholic Church."
