A lot of things can happen within two years. That's two more years of America's tax dollars funding the war. Two more years of American military men and women coming home in body bags. Two more years for the Dems and Repubs to debate an exit strategy. Two more years for the Generals to try to convince the President that they need an additional "two" more years to retrain the Iraqi military.

Certainly I did not attend War College and only time will tell if two years will make a significant difference. I wonder how many of you that answered my question have actually served in Iraq? I have. 1st MARDIV 29 Palms California, Anbar Province Iraq. I have a right to question what two years will bring.

The odds are very good that we will never finish the job in Iraq with the military we now have.
The only chance we have of bringing true stability to the Middle East is to increase the size of the military drastically.
We need to have twice the number of the current deployment in Iraq to make a real difference. When we were debating whether to go, the generals said we would need around 400,000 troops to hold the country. We probably need more now - since we have spent 5 years embittering the Iraqis and Muslims world wide and undermining respect for our military as well as our national goals.
We need universal military or home front service in this country.
More simply, we need to bring back the draft.
The all-volunteer military simply doesn't cut it.
Don't decide I'm running down the current military. Not at all. I bleed for them. They are stressed past the reasonable breaking point and are still holding together.
My point is that wonderful American young people are dying who should not be dying. We should have sufficient troop coverage to stomp on the trouble makers and keep them stomped. Right now, all we can do is stomp them here and watch them pop up over there.
With sufficient military we could lower our dependence on outside contractors, finally ensure that Iraqis have electricity and clean running water, make the airports and roads reasonably secure, and give the Iraqi Army time to train and get up to strength.
Sufficient numbers would also give us the heft to insist more strongly that the Iraqis share power among Sunnis, Shias, and Kurds. Right now we are superintending the formation of a Shia-dominated government that is very likely to be allied with Iran and even more likely to wage war on the Sunnis within their borders.
It's a horrible situation that could have been avoided with sufficient troops. Continuing to pretend that we do not need them is one of the great and horrible lies of this administration and this congress. No one dares to say it, because they fear a political firestorm, but Americans are ready to sacrifice for our country if they are only asked and if only they have confidence in their leaders.

You have to be navy or a marine, because no one understands what you are asking! The military has already had its two years and then some! So don't expect any more chances. This war isn't virtual! It's going to end no later than Jan 20th of 2009!

Actually, if the politicians had kept the heck out of the way and let the Generals run the war the way it was supposed to be run, Our men and women would already be home, Iraq would be peaceful, and the other terrorist harboring countries would be on their best behaviour, knowing what would happen if they pushed the rest of the world too far. Give the generals what they need, have the politicians and armchair generals keep their mouths shut, and finish the fight.

Have you ever been to the United States Army War College? No? Well I guess they know more than what you do...I can tell you that the Generals care more for the Soldiers on the ground than you and your ilk do...if they say it will take two more years, then it will take two more years...to a Leader in the Military...each death has a name, and family, and memories with that soldiers...to Liberals and the Democrats they are just a number and a Talking Point...
