mang: If the oldest person were 120, you would point to the accuracy of this verse. Since it is inaccurate, I think it's only fair that I should be allowed to point it out.

It does not say "no longer" here's a more accurate translation from King James:
3And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
In light of all the promises God has kept, don't you think it's childish for you to try to make this into something? I think it's safe to say that 120 was a round number. If you were to round 122 to the nearest 10 or even 5, you get 120. I'd say that supports the bible and you've got some deeper issues to work out with God.
EDIT: Get a life.

So the person lived 2 years longer...So what? What God was giving there was obviously an average since most people don't even live that long. Since that verse was written, how many people have lived to be 150?
Why do people try so hard to disprove God? It seems as though maybe they are trying to convince themselves because they don't want to feel guilty. Well, you can disprove Him all you want, but He is so much greater than our little theories. Just cuz we say He doesn't exist, doesn't mean He is going to stop existing.

It means that that particular Biblical period (ending with Noah) was at an end. Prior to that, in Genesis, there is a genealogy that refers to ten "elders" (starting with Adam) that lived exceptionally long lives. This mirrors other ancient traditions that talks about "heroes" (i.e. Gilgamesh, etc.) who were the "supermen" of their time. The extra-long lifetimes of these ten were a testament to their faithfulness to Yahweh (Enoch, for example, who "walked with God" and was "taken" by God and apparently never died).
But as usual, humanity screws up. The story goes in Genesis 6:1 that man began to populate the earth more and more, taking whatever women they desired to marry. What's worse, "The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time." (Gen. 6:5). Part of the limiting of man's lifetime was in response to his sin. And eventually, it led to God's edict to flood the earth, remove sin from his sight, and start over with a new world.
What should we conclude? Man screwed up, God found a way to bring us back. That's the ultimate message of Christianity (even all the way back there...)

Actually Abraham's father lived to be over 200 years old. When God is speaking like this He is talking about average age without him blessing it to be longer. To bad we have a hard time hittin 80 these days.

If we would take care of our bodies and follow God's law we proably could live to that age. But I hardly know anyone who doesn't do one thing or another to shorten their life.

because god is all wise and knowing the outcome of all things,he placed a age limit on us humans.were it not for the interfering of the evil one in mankind history,we would have all enjoyed eternal life in spirit and the flesh.

Did you think everyone was going to live exactly 120 years many children die also. People die at different ages... when it says his days it refers to his lifespan.
