I live close to the Canadian border now, and I'd like to live there. What do I do about health insurance? Taxes?

Technically, yes, you can live in Canada and work in the US.

There is a reciprocity between USA and Canada with regard to taxes and how they share them, but this is an area that you should discuss with US Immigration/ (formerly INS).

If you are not working/earning income while in Canada then you can stay with little concern, except for health insurance.
As a visitor to Canada you could obtain private coverage for six month periods, but you may find it cheaper to have your existing insurance extended to cover you while in Canada.

This you must check with your agent and/or insurer. If you are insured under an employer policy, do not ask them but go directly to the insurer to avoid any misinterpretation or the policy rules.

In order to obtain Canadian citizenship you must apply for status in Canada, which means obtaining a visa from a US Consulate in USA. Explain your intentions and circumstances to them.

Once you have been granted entry, and you officially enter Canada, you began a count of days. Three years after official entry you can apply for Canadian Citizenship.

USA does not officially sanction dual-nationality , but they have not been actively enforcing single-nationality, as they used to do, and many US citizens now have dual-nationality status. Canada officially sanctions dual-nationality.

Canada permits US citizens to visit Canada without a visa for up to six months, and the USA has a similar arrangement for Canadians. This is for continuous stay, but if you are travelling back and forth frequently you would logically be immune to this. You are not permitted to obtain employment under this plan, and an actual visa will be required if you wish to do so.

Note also that USA will review your passport/situation if you remain outside USA for six months or more.

Call Canadian immigration and check into it. I don't believe you can be a citizen of both countries. You shouldn't be able to anyway. Check out your health insurance also, check it out really well.

I think if you claim citizenship in Canada, the USA will make you forfeit your US citizenship, it's written on the Passport and most of my family had to renounce their citizenship (chinese, but same concept haha)

I might be wrong tho
