Paul also said, "Therefore whoever eats the bread and drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will have to answer for the body and blood of the Lord. . . . For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself" (1 Cor. 11:27, 29). "To answer for the body and blood" of someone meant to be guilty of a crime as serious as homicide. How could eating mere bread and wine "unworthily" be so serious? Paul’s comment makes sense only if the bread and wine became the real body and blood of Christ.

Have you ever suffered along with the Lord? Suffered trying to help a drug addict or an alcoholic or a person with anger problems. Helping the broken hearted is not an easy task. They will often steal from us. Say ugly words to us. It is often easier to ignore these people and say nothing to them about Jesus. But Jesus took a beating for me, so to lose a little money trying to help someone is no loss at all. Ugly words should not offend Christians. We are to take no offense. Taking up our cross and following Jesus means we will eat His flesh and drink His blood. Jesus said the world hated Him and the world will hate us. There is a suffering world out there and we are to suffer with them while teaching them about Jesus Christ.

Let's look at 1 Corinthians 11:27
"Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord."
Now, does it say, "shall be guilty of a symbol of the body and blood of the Lord" ??
No, it doesn't. And how could you be guilty of a symbol anyway?

They took the Lord Supper unworthily.
1 Corinthians 11:27-30 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)
27Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
28But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
29For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.
30For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

They were taking the Lord's supper like a meal that you would eat out instead of searching their lives and making sure everthing was ok with God before they took communion. The taking of communion is very special and important to a christian and is not meant to fill a growling stomach.

Communion is, and was a holy remembrance of what Christ went through on the cross. These people where eating and drinking like hogs, not our of remembrance, but gluttony. Much like making fun of a holy church service. Some things are to be taken seriously. The Jews where upset, because Christ claimed to be the son of God.
