i got a popsicle mold for my kids, the kind where you pour in the liquid and then stick in the plastic handles and freeze.

First I tried lemonade from a mix. When i pulled the popsicles out, all the flavor was at the tip (really strong and gross) and the rest was dilute tasting. So I figured I didn't mix it well enough, and the flavor had sunk to the bottom, which ends up being the tip when you pull it out.
So then I tried root beer from a can. I figured that had to be as well mixed as it was gonna get. I poured it into a glass and swirled it until all the fizz was gone, then I poured it in. After freezing, all the flavor was in one concentrated spot again.

i haven't used one of these things since I was a kid, but I don't remember them doing weird stuff like this. Is it the liquids I'm using? Is it my weird mold? Is it my freezer? Is it just me, am I an inadequate mom who can't even make popsicles? :-p

I just wondered if anyone else had this odd problem. Any suggestions as to why it may happen and what I can do to stop it from happening?

Your a good mom. Relax. Ha ha ha

This is caused by two variables.

1) freezer is not cold enough

2) The Popsicle trays you are using, have a coating or film on the inside. Wash them and dry them thoroughly!

Things I have frozen in my Popsicle trays include :
Orange Juice
Lemonade
Cranberry Juice
Grape Juice

Good Luck!

From what you've described...I'd have to agree with everyone that thinks your freezer isn't set cold enough. If that's the case...making slushie's and freezing them wont' help either...the suspension is the problem if you dont' freeze them fast enough..so just turn down your dial. Unless of course you want a high tech solution...in which case break out about $80,000 and buy a small HALT chamber (we can go about to about -100 Deg C in minutes)...we do freezy pops aka flavor ice and freeze them solid in 2 minutes or less. Just be careful....they will freezer burn your tongue lol

What is happening is perfectly normal- and yes, this happened when you were little.

Make slushies - juice, ice etc. in a blender.

Pour the slushies into the mold and freeze.

That way the flavor is still in suspension.

They need to be very nearly frozen before you mix and then put them in the freezer. Almost like a paste.

Your mom would cry if she found out. You forgot about the Jello! That's what makes the flavor stay mixed.

maybe your freezer isnt cold enough so the juice is just sitting there and it has time to concentrate to the bottom
