This has happened to me many times over the years. Normally, I can blow my nose, or clear my throat, and hack up the food. But last night, I got some shredded ham, that was on top of my chicken provolone lodged in there, and I can't seem to get it out. Also, isn't that unsafe to have food in there without the acids and enzymes to break it down? Doesn't bacteria thrive on something like that? I'm afraid I'm going to get sick from it.

It is such a small amount that it won't do any harm. If you know this is a problem you need to make a conscience effort to slow down when you are eating. I used to have this problem with rice because it is so small. Just keep trying to dislodge it. If it still doesn't work go see your doctor.

didnt your mother tell you to chew your food not inhale it???? as a mom who has seen many things lodged in nostrils, i suggest you get a bulb syringe, the kind used for babys. and suck it out... go to the baby section of any store you will find it... i think the best two occasions of things lodged were, my twins got beads stuck up there. so i held one nostril closed and said, BLOW< and the bead flew out and pinged around the bathroom, it was so funny they had to do it agian.... then a few years later my niece stuck a single white tick-tack up her nostril... those things burn!!!! we didnt get it out it dissolved in her nose, but she had minty breath for the rest of that day!!!!!!!!
