Not all people do this but a lot of people act like I am a complete moron because I am not Christian. I know how to read. I know all about Christianity. I'm not stupid and I don't live under a rock. So why do some people assume I must be a complete moron just because I don't agree with them?

I so understand. It bothers them that you aren't christian so they make comments like oh you haven't read the bible. Their assumptions are wrong. It's one of the things that turns me off. Not to mention when they do ask about your beliefs they act like a bug just crawled on them. I find witnessing insulting because I didn't ask them to annoy me with their babbling.

I'm sorry you've had that experience. I'm a new Christian and have a hard time "sharing the Word" for that exact reason. I had to many "bible thumpers" slam me over the head too many times. I finally came to accept the Lord on my own terms. I do wish to share the amazing things in my life but have a hard time b/c I can remember what it felt like on the other side.

Not everyone is like that, though. Just know that. The ones who are really ruin it for the rest of us.

:o)

Well, there must be something more to this being thought a moron.

"You can remain silent and be thought an idiot OR you can open your mouth and remove all doubt." ( unknown )

And just where do people like you always find these witnesses anyway? I am a Christian and only encounter one of these people about very couple of years or so.

Because they have information that they processed, and came to a certain conclusion. If you have not come to that same conclusion, they assume it is because you are lacking information.
It doesn't cross their mind that someone could have the information that they do, and not reach the same conclusion.
So in their mind, you are either: 1) uninformed or 2) stupid for not coming to the same conclusion that they did.
This actually shows a lack of intelligence on THEIR part, not yours. Take solace in that fact.

I think this a natural human trait. When someone does not agree with us we have a tendency to go into self preservation mode, and thus attack the other person. This is should not be a Christian trait, but Christians are prone to error as all people are.

Sadly, sometimes I feel the same way...especially when it's the SAME PEOPLE who tried to convert me last week.

Insanity is defined as repeating an action but expecting a different result.

This seems appropriate here:

"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. "

I do not witness to anyone.

Be as polite as you can to them and let them know that you aren't interested.

Tell them what you told us. Do it nicely and tell them to have a good day and that although you appreciate their concern, that you don't wish to discuss it.

Witnessing work is not of man, but of God. Godly intelligence is greatly superior to that of humans. Incidentally, true Christians work to preach primarily because they are commanded to. While there may be other motivations, these are distantly secondary; they include...

Glorify God
...(1 Peter 2:12) As a result of your fine works of which they are eyewitnesses glorify God in the day for his inspection.

Action of holy spirit
...(Romans 8:9) God’s spirit truly dwells in you
...(1 Corinthians 2:12-13) Now we received... the spirit which is from God... These things we also speak, not with words taught by human wisdom, but with those taught by the spirit, as we combine spiritual matters with spiritual words.

Love for God
...(1 John 5:3) For this is what the love of God means, that we observe his commandments; and yet his commandments are not burdensome

Work with God
...(1 Corinthians 3:9) For we are God’s fellow workers
...(1 John 5:9) If we receive the witness men give, the witness God gives is greater, because this is the witness God gives, the fact that he has borne witness concerning his Son

Love for Christ.
...(John 21:17) [Peter] said to him: “Lord... you are aware that I have affection for you.” Jesus said to him: “Feed my little sheep.

Fear of God.
...(Revelation 14:7) Fear God and give him glory
...(1 Peter 2:17) Be in fear of God, have [and speak] honor for the king.
...(Acts 13:26) Among you who fear God, the word of this salvation has been sent forth to us.
...(Hebrews 12:28-29) Acceptably render God sacred service with godly fear and awe. For our God is also a consuming fire.

Fear of Christ
...(2 Corinthians 5:11) Knowing, therefore, the fear of the Lord, we keep persuading men

Friendship with Christ
...(John 15:14) [Jesus said] You are my friends if you do what I am commanding you

Christ's command
...(Matthew 28:19) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations

Christ's headship
...(Ephesians 4:15) But speaking the truth, let us by love grow up in all things into him who is the head, Christ.

Love for Neighbor.
...(Romans 10:14) However, how will they call on him in whom they have not put faith? How, in turn, will they put faith in him of whom they have not heard? How, in turn, will they hear without someone to preach?

Enjoyment.
...(Psalm 40:8) To do your will, O my God, I have delighted

Remain qualified for salvation
...(Philippians 2:12-13) Keep working out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for God is the one that, for the sake of his good pleasure, is acting within you in order for you both to will and to act.

Sense of fulfillment
...(John 4:34) My food is for me to do the will of him that sent me and to finish his work

Eventual reward
...(1 Corinthians 3:8) Each person will receive his own reward according to his own labor
...(Ephesians 6:8) You know that each one, whatever good he may do, will receive this back from Jehovah

Self-defense
...(Hebrews 3:13) Keep on exhorting one another each day, as long as it may be called “Today,” for fear any one of you should become hardened by the deceptive power of sin

Refute troublemakers
...(1 Peter 2:15) By doing good you may muzzle the ignorant talk of the unreasonable men
