Temptation is that idea that pulls you and talks you into doing something that you know will hurt you. It appeals to your carnal nature and goes against logic and good sense. It's that thing that causes a married man to accept the offer of the woman in the short skirt at the bar. It's the voice that lands men in a house talking to Chris Hanson about why they showed up to have sex with a 13 yr old. It overrides our common sense and sense of what is right.
I really like the cartoon picture of the little angel and devil on someone's shoulders. The devil one is the temptation. It talks to you about what would be fun right now, and the angel one is your conscience that reminds you of the consequences that could come from that choice.

A temptation is an act that looks appealing to an individual. It is usually used to describe acts with negative connotations and as such, tends to lead a person to regret such actions, for various reasons: legal, social, psychological (including feeling guilt), health, economic, etc. Temptation also describes the coaxing or inducing a person into committing such an act, by manipulation or otherwise of curiosity, desire or fear of loss.
"Temptation" is usually used in a loose sense to describe actions which indicate a lack of self control, such as procrastination or eating junk food. Temptation is a common recurring theme in world literature. Temptation has repercussions for even the strongest.
"Temptation" is something that allures, excites, and seduces someone. Love, can also be a temptation as someone might do something for love in spite of their better judgement.-

For an intelligent and shrewd modern man, temptation really means nothing much. The moot question to be answered is,"can he afford it"?Not always in terms of finance but host of other considerations like personal or social risks, and long term consequences etc.In a wider sense, most of the temptations have the adverse strings attached to them and if one can circumvent them, the Ball is your's.

Temptation is leading another person into sin. Hey lets go steal that car over there. Sell these drugs and you can make alot of money. Buy that prostitute, the fun will feel good.
Trials are different from temptations. God sends us trials or helps us endure the trials of life. The Hard times.
God never tempts us, he never leads us into sin.
In the Our Father we say,"and lead us not into temptation." The English is bad. The actual meaing is that God protect us from the tempting evil one. Satan is also known as the "Tempter."

I think temptation is defined differently for each person based on their personal beliefs and experience.
For example, for one person eating a piece of chocolate cake would be temptation. Whereas another person may see the opportunity to steal something as temptation.
My definition of temptation is the urge to do something that you are not strong enough to resist. If you are 100% resistant to something there is no temptation for you to do it.

The act of lusting for something that is evil or unwise.
We are tempted when we are “carried away and enticed by our own lust”. We allow ourselves to think certain thoughts, allow ourselves to go places we should not go, and make decisions based on our lusts that lead us into the temptation.
