It could be a number of things. If it's dried little crust in the corner of the eye, that's dried tears from the tear ducts "cleaning" themselves out. If he's had a runny or stuffy nose or cold or allergy symptoms, that might just be how it's draining - runny eye instead of a runny nose. If it's stuck shut and there's any swelling (similar to post-crying puffiness) that *could* be pinkeye. If there's significant swelling, it could be another kind of infection. The last two require visits to the doctor for medication. The first two just require you to watch and observe to see if it changes or gets worse.

I work in daycare with many children that I've seen with mucuous in their eyes and it could either be allergies, or a cold in the eye. Depending on what colour it is.. if it's green, its a cold, if it's white, it's allergies. Same as when it's in the nose.
If it continues for more than a few days, it's best to get it checked out. It could also be pink eye, so it is best to get it checked out. Good luck!

It could be allergies or a start of a cold. Also if it only happens once I might even think it's pink eye. If your concerned you should defiantly go to the doctors.

Pink eye, he'll need to stay out of daycare (if he/she goes), for 24 hours after being on the eye drops,...which he will need from the ped. wash all pillows, blankets, and if possible stuffed animals, and keep from rubbing at your own eyes or you will catch it.
