I assume "the boat of the good" sitting in front of us is either our fellow Christians? Maybe you go to a church where you worship the Minister or Priest or Mary or idols, I don't know.
I don't worship any of those things except Jesus and God. No idols, no images.
Lots of times people do have high expectations of church. We should always remember the reason for church though.
Expecting something from people in the church might become a letdown at times. Most people at most churches are good people, I think. I don't know what you mean by an imperfect church. Do you mean because its filled with humans, who are imperfect? Who is to say that a "church" is imperfect?

Churches are stagnant because of the lack of expectations. Members should be expected to support the work of the local body of believers. Church is not about satisfying church members wants and desires. The church is a place where true believers in Jesus Christ come to worship together, give their tithe together, serve God together, learn together, live together, and witness together.

I think in some churches their expectations are a little to high, cause i know people who go to a church that won't let you in if you aren't wearing a dress for the girls and a suit for the guys. and that isn't really fair for the people who can't afford to buy those things...and this is just my opinion but i also think that churches tend to sometimes scare people off...like still again my opinion...but Baptist Church sermons often talked about how we are going to hell if we don't repent or sins...and to me there is much more to being a Christian than going to hell if you don't repent your sins...that is why im glad i go to Saint Micheals Lutheran Chruch. Cause they just don't say your going to hell.

I believe I always assume when I visit other churches that they will be like my home church, but they aren't. Went to a revival one time at a free will baptist church one time and walked in and this man was wearing shorts. Another time went to a Baptist church and no one shaked my hand, so I went around to them instead and shaked theirs. Man did they all look shocked. I am a Baptist myself, but I guess all Baptist do not worship the same.

Unfortunatly,a lot of people dont open a bible or stay in contact with God until Sunday.
Church should enhance our relationship with God.We should`nt expect to be "fed" for the entire week on Sunday.
I used to have a magnet that said" 7 days without prayer makes one "weak".This is so true.We have to feed our souls daily on Gods word.

Huh? Too high?? The Offices of Instruction (Catechism) of the Book of Common Prayer (1662) says:
"My bounden duty is to follow Christ, to worship God every Sunday in his Church; and to work and pray and give for the spread of his kingdom."
Is that "too high" of an expectation?? To follow Christ, to go to church and to work and pray?
I sure don't think so.

That can be the case sometimes....
All I expect is this:
A Bible-based teaching every Sunday.
And conviction & encouragement to share Christ with others by the time I walk out the door

Yes, I agree. Sometimes we miss the forest for the trees. We let our over-enthusiasm hinder the gospel from being spread effectively.

Not at all. Yes, we are alll flawed as humans, but nothing is impossible for God. He will help us to be transformed into the people He desire us to be, if we are obedient to his will and ask for His help.
