Shoplifting is just a crime, and no matter what, the shoplifter is responsible. However...

Kleptomania, as one example, is a mental illness. It's characterized by an absolute need to take something. If you had it you'd feel possessed to take things on a regular basis. They do have prescriptions that might help... my guess would be anti-obsessive-compulsive-disorder meds. Make an appointment if you're concerned. Just don't forget that someone can still be held accountable for his or her behavior.

i wouldn't call it an illness, its more of a habit. it takes about 21days (3 weeks) to break a habit. first try to find out what causes you to shoplift. it could be that your stressed out about money or your presued to do so. once you find out what the cause is, you can try focusing more of the emotions you put into shoplifting into somthing more prductive. like drawing, danceing, reading, etc.
and remember that your in control of your actions. there is no excuse saying it is an illness when it is really a habit.
"were there is a will there is a way"
your in control. not the person next to you

shoplifting is not a mental illness, because you know what you are doing, it is a matter of choosing to do right vs doing wrong.
kleptomania on the other hand is a mental illness, but most that suffer with it, do not know they are actually taking something, they realize it after the fact, those people can be helped with antipsychotic medications.

Shoplifting is not a mental illness. It is a crime.

Why you feel the need to shoplift may be the result of a mental disorder.

You need to see a therapist for help.

why, have you been caught red handed? Its an addiction probably because you dont have money. If you had the cash, you wouldnt need to go shoplifting.

it is a mental illness my mum used to do it ages ago and it was classed then as a mental illness. Some people just do it to fit in with their 'group' and that isn't classed as an illness. So i guess it's down to the person comitting the crime...

It may be the symptom or an act that results from a particular psychological disturbance, but it is not itself an illness

It's not a mental disease. It's an emotional expression. No, you can't take something for it.

Just stop stealing!
