I'm curious because I have been summoned with a 'public urination' ticket and would like to bring up the fact, in court, that it seems very odd that there isn't some minimum amount of public restrooms available to the public for one of the largest public transportation systems in the country. Thanks,

Its funny that they ticket us for this when the original system was built with bathrooms. If you look closely at most subway stations, especially ones on the original line (lexington line) you will see rooms with mosaics that say men or women. these were bathrooms at one point and provided for all who needed.

it is my understanding that during the late 60's and 70's that nyc ran out of money for the subway and couldnt afford to keep the bathrooms clean. as a result, bums and homosexual prostitutes would frequently hang out in them and make it so no one but they could go in to use them. as time went on, the MTA realized this and shut down all bathrooms on the subway, converting them into storage space and painting over the 100 year old mosaics.

yea, i dont like the mta

however, at a select few stations (mainly the big hubs like penn, grand central) you can find a bathroom or two hidden about. they are not located at the original sites of the bathrooms, but are newer ones that have been built (probably originally for mta workers).

it sux, and there is no option other than to hold it in. trust me, you and the bums that pee on the subway are not the only ones. when you gotta go, youre gonna go.

i suggest research the history of why the MTA decided to go against the creators of the subway's idea and close all bathrooms. i think you will find it interesting, and may be able to use it as a defense in court

Grand Central Station has restrooms one level down by the Oyster Bar, by the Metro North waiting area and down the escalators (on the right and left of the escalators; the escalator is in from of the Metro North waiting area). In Penn Station by the LIRR and by Amtrak. Borough Hall also has a bathroom, at the Hunts Point ave stop (6 line), and at the 180th street train stop (2 and 5 lines). Jamaica center has restrooms (E line)

Of course there are bathroom! Usually there are bathrooms near the areas where there are still booths. Change your defense buddy because with that weak *** defense, you're gonna have to pay that ticket. And any true New Yorker knows if you gonna pee in the station, you go the extreme back or front of the station so you don't get caught.
