i have a 2.75 year old , who attends daycare 2 days a week. i have caught many colds from her since she began daycare, and knew this was a possibility. i am now especially concerned because i have had 4 ilnesses in 7 weeks; 2 full blown colds, another with high fever and rash, and a stomach bug with vomiting diahrhea.

can this be normal? shouldn't i fight off half of these? i am beginning to wonder if i have an oppressed i mmune system or if i should get an hiv test. i used to get sick maybe once a year, now it is literally 6-10.

thanks for any thoughts.

I think it's normal. the fact that you're recovering from each of these illness is a sign that your immune system is normal. My sister is a teacher and her first year teaching she was sick the entire year (which is common). The kids pass the illnesses around to each other and to the adults in their lives.
They say there are 200 cold viruses and you never get the same ones twice. The more colds you get now, the fewer you will get in the years to come.

Talk to your doctor first. Maybe have tests done. You could try taking Vitamin C pills several times a day. I do daycare and the kids are always bringing germs into my home. I used to get sick once a month or two. I take Vitamin C pills and have not had a cold now for almost a year. Also get some GermX. It WILL do you good. I use it on my kids and myself, before eating (along with proper washing of hands) after eating, before playing, after playing (inside or outside) and after coughing or sneezing.
Good Luck!

you have children and children around other children touch stuff that they don't even catch. That doesn't make sense, but it's true. Make a habit, also, of a daily/weekly disinfectant ruitine in your own home. Starting with the front door knob. A quick wipe with those handy disposable disinfectant cloths should be enough. Anything you and your child touch routinely. You don't have to be a fanatic, just cautious.
First, I would check the daycare facility and ask what their daily/weekly cleaning regime is. Get a flue shot for all in the house. Take a good multi vitamin and lots of vitamin C w/ bioflavonoids (equal mg.) as a daily habit. and...of course, yes, see your doc for a blood work up.

you can lessen the severity of the illnesses you contract from your daycare youngster....use Zicam nasal swabs every morning, this will help to prevent catching colds and viruses. Become compulsive about washing your hands and the hands of your little one, this is how most viruses are transmitted, ie hand to mouth or nose. No you don't have HIV, you just have a toddler and aren't careful enough about hand washing.

Very normal. Best thing I found is to build the immune system by improving the diet by eating a lot more healthy foods like blueberries, brocolli, spinach, etc.
