Most of the swelling should go down by then but when you talk you will still sound funny and may hurt. Someone will probably notice, especially if you work somewhere that you have to talk a lot.
Also I highly recommend getting soft foods to eat for the first few days because eating was very painful. Also take some IB Profen immediately after getting it pierced. They should also give you a special mouth rinse to use for the first few days.

A tongue piercing is a piercing through the tongue. You can get rid of piercing completely only within a month. But relief you can get with Cold, Slurpee-style drinks and sucking on ice that will help to mitigate the swelling and soreness, as will ibuprofen. A tongue piercing usually takes 4-6 weeks to fully heal. Because healing piercing will come into contact with anything that enters the mouth, including food and smoke. Don't ingage in oral sex, and smoke, rinsing your mouth thoroughly with a antiseptic mouthwash either an alcohol-free mouthwash or diluting a regular mouthwash, as the alcohol will irritate the piercing and slow healing. It is especially important not to play with the piercing during the healing period, because that will severely inhibit the proper healing of the hole.Because of the tongue's exceptional natural healing ability, piercings can close very quickly.

Don't do it. It's extremely painful and and you could be in for a major infection and some people have to learn how to talk all over again The current fad of tongue piercing came about for one reason. The unfounded notion that it feels good when a woman gives a man a B.J. and will thus make them more popular. If this is the signal you want to send then by all means go ahead. If you're doing it because it's trendy don't. No one will even know unless you walk around with your mouth open.

I'm really just adding on to every one else cuz they r all right. So here it goes I got mine done on a satuday and by monday the swelling was gone. However some words of caution: if in the event the swelling doesn't go down go back to the peircer cuz you maybe allergic to metal, which they should tell you, then will they switch you to titanium. Also DO NOT have any beer for at least three weeks cuz you don't want a yeast infection. And no chips for a few days ,they hurt. Hope this helps.

As its been said, everyone heals differently. I originally got mine done on a lunch break from work, downsized the bar after 5 days, and I could eat solid foods that night. Swelling wasnt that bad and my speech was fine. As for people noticing it, they get bored, you probably wont :)
As with any piercing, try not to mess about with it too much, its very hard to do at first, keep it clean, use diluted anti bacterial mouthwash, as some stuff can be a little too harsh on a fresh piercing, and just look after it. Good luck :)

It took about a week for my swelling of my tongue to go down (no pun intended). I have had it pierced for 11 years now and if I had to do it all again, I wouldnt. Between the swelling, me being impatient when I eat and causing it to bruise off the get go, chipped teeth through the years, after adding all that up I wouldnt. The only reason I still have it is I dont want to take it out and other obvious reasons.

Really depends on how your body reacts to it.
I had it done & went to work the next day, so I just want to say YEAH you'll be fine.
I do remember telling people I had a headache as to why I was quiet, but no one noticed it for about a month.
How will you hide the Listerine you'll be using the 1st week?

Everybody is different. My tongue swelled up for an entire week and I couldn't eat anything except for Oodles & Noodles, I lost 5lbs. However my boyfriend got his done and you would never have noticed. Some say it depends on which direction pierce it, top to bottom or bottom to top. Mine was pierced top to bottom so maybe try bottom to top.

everyone heals at different speeds... that aside, it'll generally take at least a week for the swelling to go down, and longer than that for you to be able to eat and speak normally
if you're going ahead with it - make sure you have plenty of iced water around to keep the swelling down, don't drink... and keep your fingers crossed that you're a speedy healer
and if all else fails - i got mine done without my boss knowing, and passed it off as really bad toothache for about a week

You're going to speak differently (at least for a while until you get used to it). You'll also be playing with it even without knowing because it's something in your mouth -- it's natural to do so.
People are going to know. If you don't want them to make a big deal of it or notice it, don't have it done.
