You and the family can't do anything.
You can advise your dad. It's only your dad can do it.
If he want to stop smoking, he can do it. It's only temptation and willingness's fighting the addicted to tobacco.

I don't think that doing something to his tobacco will change his mind about smoking cancer causing cigarettes, they do smell horrible and the smoke causes other types of medical problems for th rest of your family, besides leaving a yellow film all over the ceiling, walls and on the furniture.
You might try this: Obtain DVD's from the American Cancer Society showing the affects of cancer on the human lungs, showing a healthy pair of lungs as compared to a pair of lungs from a deceased smoker. This might get his immediate attention and realize that smoking does cause cancer, its no longer a myth, but cold fact, smoking does kill the user and it does create severe medical problems for anyone that is experiencing the second-hand smoke.
You could also purchase some stop-smoking gum for your Dad, and ask him to try this as an alternative to his smoking habits, and they also have patches that you can wear on your upper arms that release controlled amounts of nicotine into the bloodstream that allows the smoker to slowly withdraw from smoking over a period of time.
If your Dad does decide to quit, please be very supportive of him, he will probably become very cranky, snapoff at you for nothing and will have difficulty sleeping, but as time wears on, and he stays smoke free, these symptoms will decrease. His food will start to taste better, the air that he is breathing will smell better and you will have saved your Dad's life.
Hope this helps you with this very serious problem,
I wish you and your family a long happy life with your Dad!

Cigarettes are very expensive, and to tamper with them in any way can cause more harm then good. That's a very dangerous approach to mess with his cigarettes. The habit is a very hard one to break. In order for him to stop he will have to make the first step to stop. Tell your mother to make him smoke only outside. That way everyone else won't have to have the burden of smelling like smoke. Do some research on second hand smoke, and then bring it to his attention. Let him know what the smoke is doing to you, and the rest of the family members that contact the second hand smoke as well. Take that approach instead of putting some foreign substance in his cigarettes that will cause him to get really sick or possibly die. I don't think you would want something like that on your conscience.

Put some horses hair in it. Apparently it makes the cigarette so strong that it hurts the smokers throat and lungs and they don't want to do it anymore. Not sure if this is true. It could just be an old wives' tail, I'll have to look it up. Or you can too then get back to each other.
Hope to hear from you soon!!!

you can't do a thing to help your dad quit, he has to want to. I would point out to him how his habit impacts you and enlist your mom's help to get him to smoke outside. That odor is really hard to get rid of in a house and he is reducing the value of his property by smoking indoors. But as far as quitting the habit, he has to want to, and when he does want to, he will.

you can toss some sand or dirt into the box, maybe put some muddy water in a syringe and then inject it into his cigs. just use the dirt from your backyard. and if he goes out to buy more, get a jar (large if you like) and fill it up with water, and add some dirt (1-2 inches on the bottom) shake, and cap. each time he buys a pack or box you can inject it into the box, leaving a strange brown residue in the box.

Firstly, are you sure it is the smell that concerns you and not the risk he is putting himself at?
Secondly, the solution is to get him to open the window. Or go outside to smoke.
Also, there are worse and dirtier habits.
