How come not 1 single group can ever decide on what it means to be a true follower. We constantly see one group claim to be the "true way" but they spend so much time fighting with other groups who have the same idea but different message. We see different groups of Muslims and Christians doing this constantly. My question is, if your ways are "right" ways , how come none of you can ever agree with each other? I mean it's not like you all have 15 different holy books with different messages, What would you say is the reason for the lack of unity amongst Christians and Muslims?

As someone much wiser than myself once said: if you want to know the real reasons for people's actions, follow the money; and when they insist that it's not about the money, it is ALWAYS about the money.

It's a market economy, and all those different factions are competing for your tithes, and your cash in the collection plate, and your tax-free donations, because they don't produce anything tangible or of lasting value, themselves...

The answer to that surprisingly, JESUS gave to us. I say "surprisingly" because the very same book we all agree as CHRISTians as the WORD OF GOD, the Bible, The Catholic Canon of Sacred Scripture says that:
1. JESUS will cause division. There will be five in one house and two will be against three. Blessed are the peacemakers they shall be called Sons of GOD.
2. The Proud are scattered in their conceit, and the proud are confused in their innermost thoughts.
3. All this was foretold, that they would fall into apostacy, and there would rise up false teachers, and false prophets, and if possible even deceive the elect.
4. There are those who see THE TRUTH and humbly accept it and those who do not. Those who are blind, or taught falsely follow a prophet who's reward they will inherit.

This amounts to the need for JESUS as the way to GOD THE FATHER. JESUS as THE WORD OF GOD is the TRUTH, THE LIFE, AND THE WAY. The Bilbe has said all these things, and taught us much. That which was revealed from GOD the discerning heart will understand. That which is a lie is of the devil. So we must understand JESUS is the TRUTH. But there is one group, the largest religion on Earth who agrees in totality and humbly follows THE LORD as sheep. They comprise the greater majority of CHRISTians, and the single largest religion on the planet. The Roman Catholic Church. Who's unity of purpose, and TRUTH of doctrine, and steadfastness against the wickedness of the world show's us once again this is THE TRUE CHURCH. But for all that there is a falling away, and scandals, as the CHURCH is under attack by the powers of darkness. Trying to diminish the LIGHT OF CHRIST in the world. But the devil's time is short, and his time will be up when JESUS returns, quite soon.

LOVE your neighbor as yourself.
Amen.

I'm a Christian. I don't hate anyone. I don't disagree with anyone. We all have a right to believe as we wish. My God is a loving Father who sent his Son to save a troubled world. Some Muslims have a doctrine in their belief system that states either convert you to Islam or destroy you!
If one looks at history, specifically the history of Islam. Its "prophet" Muhammed was a learned man who traveled in Christian and Jewish lands. He learned their theism, but didn't like the idea of Jesus being the Son of God. When he returned to Mekka he conquered it and enforced his religion on all about him. Jews, Christians, and pagans in the area either converted to Islam or were destroyed.
Jesus said, "You will know a false prophet by his deeds". Muhammed supposedly received his "visions" from the angel Gabriel. Why would Gabriel tell Mary her son was to be the messiah and then tell Muhammed that Jesus was merely a prophet? Remember the New Testament of the bible was written 600 yrs before the Qu'ran. Some critics say Muhammed was either decieved by Satan or his minions or he made the whole thing up.
Lastly, realize that one of the Devil's best tools is to divide and conquer. That is why "religious" people are so divided.

Even if you claim to follow a religious doctrine that doesn't mean that the teachings of that doctrine will mean the same thing to you as it does to someone else. Just because you think you are "right" doesn't mean that anyone else will agree with you. The reason people can't get along is because the have never been taught to agree to disagree. They become insulted because not everyone thinks they are right. So really the reason behind lack of unity isn't the differing religion.....it's pride.

Because we focus on the wrong things and have
wrong motives just like every other human being!
We are told by God to first take out the big discrepancies
and bad habits from our own lives BEFORE trying
to help others with thier small ones!
I am more sure of WHO I know than WHAT I know!
We have to learn that there ARE unresolved mysteries!
We have to learn that questions are OK!
Even the greatest prophets of old had questions.
We only know in part - we don't have all the pieces together!
We want to get it correct so badly and pride is the first sin!
We hunger to be perfect but have to realize we are not!
God tells us to love, to not fight umoung ourselves, but
to reason and question!
People have bad motives and don't know it,
yet that does not mean that I will "throw the baby out
with the bath water!" I will continue to trust God!

WHEN the Christian congregation was formed in the first century of our Common Era, one of its outstanding characteristics—despite the diversity of its members—was its unity.
The foremost factor that united fellow believers in the first century was love of God. “Love one another; just as I have loved you . . . By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves.” (John 13:34, 35)

1 Corinthians 1: 10 says -
"Now I exhort YOU, brothers, through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that YOU should all speak in agreement, and that there should not be divisions among YOU, but that YOU may be fitly united in the same mind and in the same line of thought."

Find the religion that goes by these verses and you have found the true religion.

your question is very great, i think that is because some people explain the religion acording to wht they think is right, for example:
a quote from the qura'an: says that "women have no brains or religion" some people explain it wrongly thw woman should not do anything because that wht religion says,,
but other right people would read the rest of the sentense and undersatnd wht is meant by it , in which it contues to explain that woamn are like that when they get there period. the reasonis because the woman is not allowed to pray when she gets her period.
there are many people who explain every word wrong according to wht they think although the religion is clear. it is full sentences not not two words and sb comes make an explantion for it.

That's easy - religion is practiced by human beings, no two of which are exactly alike - not even "identical" twins. The reason they can't agree is that human beings are all different, think differently, and come to different conclusions. Last I heard there were about 1,600 different denominations of Christianity. I have no idea how many denominations of Islam there are, other than Shiite and Sunni.

Because Christians believe in the Bible.

Muslims claim to believe in the Bible, except for the deity of Christ, and the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. Muslims only believe in the ascension of Christ, and they believe that He will return to lead everyone to Allah.

Then on top of the Bible, which they do not fully believe in, their holy book is the Qu'ran. This book tells them to avidly seek to convert all men to Muslim, just like the Bible tells Christians to do, but their Qu'ran tells them to kill those who refuse to accept Islam; yet the Holy Bible tells us to shake the dust off of our feet and move on if the person to whom we have witnessed refuses to accept Christ.

So, not only do they have an additional book, they gut the Bible of all the things we hold dear and then because they consider us infidels, they proceed to kill as many infidels in the name of Allah as they can.

Christianity has never believed that it was right to kill non-believers except in the Catholic church and there are no instructions to do so in the Bible.

However, in favor of the Catholics, the Crusades were against a reign of terror by the Muslims who were killing Christians and seizing their lands.

acid burn, The apostle Paul was martyred in 65 AD and he began the expansion of the church to the Gentiles. At that time there was no Holy Roman Catholic Church. Paul started house churches in Rome. BTW, Peter who is claimed to be the first Pope of the Catholic Church was martyred at the same time Paul was martyred. Peter was crucified up-side-down and Paul had his head cut off with a sword.

marriedandamom, It is not about the wallet, it is about spreading the gospel of Christ to as many corners as possible. In order to inspire a group of people to do that we have worship services, that are really training services to equip the body of Christ to do the work of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-12). Thus a need for a place to do that, and there are utilities, maintenance, salaries (a church must have a pastor, secretary, treasurer or financial administrator, a choir or worship leader, an organist or pianist or both. It takes money to fill the baptismal and it cannot be allowed to be full all the time so you have to drain it and refill it much like a swimming pool. Some churches have satellite churches that have staff as well. They support the operation of the satellite churches until they are able to support themselves. The list of needs is phenominal, in some cases as ours, we support a homeless shelter. The deacons and the congregation have to agree to take on these outside ministries, because everyone will have to help pay for it all. But I can tell you this, if everyone gave one-tenth of what they earn to the church, it would never have to ask for more money.
