It depends on the person.

I would think an SSRI like Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft. There are newer ones that would probably work well too.

I take Paxil and it works for me.

Klonopin is awfully strong, valium can be habit forming, I think xanax can be habit forming too. These drugs probably shouldn't be prescribed unless nothing else works for the person.

I have taken Buspar in combination with Paxil when my symptoms were more severe; it helped, but I think it made my nose runny.

My diagnoses are Major Depression and Dysthymic DIsorder, but I have a lot of anxiety and sometimes I have symptoms that seem like Social Anxiety Disorder. The anxiety and depression kind of go together for me.

Some people might disagree with me, but I think a lot of these diagnoses overlap quite a bit. I have heard psychiatrists say that they do.

I suffered from this and was prescribed Paxil. It worked wonders and really helped. Here's the problem, when I decided to get off it after 3 years I had horrible withdrawal effects. My point, before you get on a medication research it thoroughly. It took me about 6 months to get over all the withdrawal symptoms and since then I WILL NOT go on medication due to fear of similar results. Fortunately, I have learned to deal with the anxiety on my own, but it took a lot of time.

My doctor put me on an antidepressent called Effexor. It is just not for depression but that usually develops with this diorder. It has done miracles for me. It takes 3 weeks to get into your system, so give it a chance.

in case you seem around adequate, you will detect a PDR with thoughts on each and every of the medicine i'm going to point. If not a PDR, then a minimum of the insert that is going into the PDR. It in simple terms takes a splash learn. (PDR= Physicians table Reference). SSRIs (classification of anti-depressants): -Prozac (Fluoxetine) -Zoloft (Sertraline) -Lexapro (Escitalopram) those SSRIs are widely used to have anxiolytic homes and are often prescribed to handle social tension warning signs (to not point out the melancholy that is going hand in hand with them). My impact and journey from Lexapro and Zoloft tells me that they are greater valuable with social tension warning signs whilst used at larger doses. Benzodiazepines (classification of anxiolytics): -Ativan (Lorazepam) -Klonopin (Clonazepam) -Valium (Diazepam) those are often prescribed for regular tension warning signs to boot as panic issues and PTSD. they are generally greater valuable than the SSRIs i discussed, yet they may well be habit forming and reason drowsiness (Valium is used intraveneously to knock people out for dental surgical treatment). i might advise Ativan or Klonopin formerly Valium or Xanax. often, an SSRI and a Benzodiazepine are used concurrently for any style of tension ailment with severe rates of fulfillment. As for those drugs "working," an FDA seal of approval to be utilized in treating regular tension is a fabulous indication that they artwork.
