American Division came about since the US considered its citizens as Americans.

They seem to think you just can't spell. :)

Americal is a combination of America and New Caledonia, which is where the Division was formed in the early years of World War II. The Division has a long and distinguished history of service. I am not 100% sure that it still exists, but I figure it probably does since you're asking about it.

I always wondered the same thing and finally looked it up one day.
