Ok i might get some bad comments over this one but Im an athiests and i dont understand, Why most things im reading from other Athiests are so hateful!! I guess i do for the most part but Come on now, let them think and believe what they want, Lets be bigger than shooting off some nasty words because we not going to change their minds to not believe. God to most people is an addiction. EVERYONE in this life is addicted to something. Why do you think that so many drug addicts turn to god to recover. Its switching the addiction from one thing to another. My sister is like that.. But lets just keep it polite!! Does anyone else agree??

Believe me I understand what you mean by people throwing a religion at you. My Mom and sisters do that to me. And i respectfully told them my feelings about the situation, NOW THEY THINK IM SOME HORRIBLE PERSON LOL, they actually cried when i told them. But i have felt this way since i have been alittle girl. I remember going to church at like 6 yrs old just thinking it dont make sense. But i see christians bashing too but, still dont give us right. Take the good with the bad

I agree we shouldn't be hateful but some people classify disagreement as hatefulness. Do you think they are content to keep their addiction to themselves? Haven't you seen them talking about refusing to fill birth control prescriptions because birth control is against their morals. Don't you see them trying to influence laws to turn back the clock to a time when such choices were not available? Haven't you heard about the fight to keep evolution being taught in science class or the fight to get creationist/ID views taught even though they are bad science. Have you heard about the fight to get the Bible taught in some schools and that the final exams had questions like "Why is it God's will that unbelievers will perish in the lake of fire?" Do you want this stuff being taught to your children in this way?

I can leave them alone when they keep their addiction to themselves.

Religion is a heartfelt topic. Most people believe what they believe with a passion and debate it with the same intensity. Theists also are belligerent at times, too.I try to look past the insults or nastiness of each side to what the person is saying and the point they are trying to make. When you've been on here awhile you learn not to take any of it to heart.

A Christian. Love and peace.

Everyone here has touched my heart and soul in some way . Our differences in beliefs do not hinder me from seeing each of them as a separate, unique individual with their own lives to live as they see fit. The fact that we are all human beings with human emotions should be enough common ground to bring us all to a certain level of respect for one another. But,I fear it is a level too many here will not be able to achieve.

I agree very much. It's not just atheists (as if you didn't know). I'm a Christian and am deeply embarrassed by a lot of the small minded hateful stuff I see posted here in His name. Athiest, Jew, Christian, Muslim, no reason we can't be polite.

yes I agree very much. I'm not an atheist, but I'm not neccesarily Christian. I believe that there may be some higher power out there (but right now we don't know what it is) I grew up in a Christian church, and decided not to follow the path.

I agree about being polite because it is okay to disagree and we thank GOD or in your case goodness for all us being in a country where we can choose to believe or not believe.

For me not having been on drugs or having an addiction I believe because I feel, because I seek and because I know that something higher than man exist. For those who don't believe it on them but it is not an addiction and thank goodness that you sister has turned to something besides drugs and is healthier than when she was on drugs.

It is okay and we are not forcing anyone to believe - we just plant seeds and they either germinate or die in the hard soil.

I am a Christian, and I think you are an angel. How kind of you! I really appreciate it.
Atheists are not going to change my mind, for sure.

I try so hard to be respectful of them and to see good in all of them. I try to let them know how intelligent I think they are and to understand why some of them hate all of us.

It would be cool if we all were kind to one another.

Have a happy day!

I would request the same of the Christians on this site and do try to be respectful of others. I am critical of nastiness from Christians and atheists alike.

I agree (as a Christian)

Unfortunately, I see nasty comments coming from Christians far more often than atheists.

It would be one thing if the theists were content to sit at home or in their clubhouse with the big steeple on top and indulge in their little fantasies with their imaginary friends. But that's NOT what they do -- they want everyone ELSE to believe in their Invisible Sky Daddy, and live their life the way they say he wants them to, and contribute money to pay for his pet projects.

When they give up, so will I -- but until then, I'll keep heaping on the scorn and ridicule they so richly deserve.
