Skill-wise, Vargas should defeat Mayorga without any problems. Mayorga is no more than some common street fighter, in my opinion. Unfortunately, Vargas' heart is at question, which would give hope for Mayorga, especially with a puncher's chance of winning. Considering those things, you could almost say that it's a toss up. But if some fool pointed a gun to my head and told me to pick one or the other, I would probably go with Vargas..... hoping that his heart would be into this fight and his skill level.

Vargas will knock Mayorga out in 2 rounds. Mayorga always has been a bum whose whole career came from getting lucky against Vernon Forrest many years ago. Mayorga just goes straight ahead and gets his *** whipped, which is why everyone, including washed up fighters like Vargas and De La Hoya want tot fight him. By the way, all the so called bad blood in this fight is faked like it is in every Mayorga fight because the clown haired princes Don King and Mayorga need to fake it to try to get somebody to buy Mayorga getting his *** whipped repeatedly (see De La Hoya - Mayorga for proof).

If Vargas' back doesn't bother him, I think he'll just make it over the hump to beat Mayorga...

Mayorga is wreckless and badly conditioned, he smokes, you know he drinks and he is just not a true boxer, he hits hard but throws wide open punches...

Vargas' ability as a boxer/brawler can overcome that and find those wide open holes, plus he wll defend himself better than Mayorga will so I go with Vargas

Vargas spent his whole career at this weight. Mayorga is a beefed up welterweight. Power advantage Vargas. These guys have not fought in a year and they are past their prime. Chins about equal. Vargas should control the fight. Vargas by decision. Would not surprise me if Vargas wins by TKO.

I agree with woody. Mayorga was never a boxer. Vargas can box and brawl even though he's washed-up, he's still better than mayorga.

Mayorga. Mayorga only gets beat by boxers. If you're willing to trade punches and just brawl with him, he's going to beat you. You beat Mayroga with boxing, and Vargas really isn't a good boxer. You don't get the nickname "Furocious" by being a boxer.

I like Vargas, but Mayorga will probably pull it out. It's a shame what has happened with Fernando.

Vargas should win because he is more technically sound as a boxer, but if he gets hit then he's over with. Vargas is one of the most over-hyped and overrated boxers and if a stiff breeze hits him on the chin, he will crumble. He gets knocked out in all of his biggest fights.

Vargas' heart is gone...he's chasing paychecks now. Mayorga by late-round KO.

this is a stupid fight between two future bums, they both have nothing left, this fight will prove who's not the worst of the bums... they both had they re time in the spotlight with surprisingly big wins...both fighters got big hearts to they re dismay but who will win do to "the sweet science" Vargas, but Mayorga could get lucky with one of those "Vernon Forest" right hands-strong possibility but Vargas wins 10th rnd K.O
