The prophet Elisha went to Jericho the first miracle attributed to him was cleansing a well, the second was when a group of children made fun of his being bald he cursed them and two bears mauled them.
Is that what christians call a miracle?

Ivan,
So you worship a god that kills children to prove his power? WOW!! Where can I join your cult?

Martin,
Would not a better comparison today be John Wayne Gacie? Didn't he also kill 40 some kids?

Randy,
Your an idiot. I did read it. You did not. The bears killed the kids not just scatter them. You justify the killing of children by your god and call it a miracle to justify your belief in your own superiority complex.

This comes up all of the time. You cut & pasted this objection from a website; you didn't read the story yourself.

A gang of 42 teenagers threatens an old man with death, and God intervenes to save him by sending two bears to scatter the gang of youths, and you consider God to be cruel.

If God had done nothing, and let the old man get beat to death by the gang of teenagers, you would say that God is indifferent because he doesn't stop evil things from happening.

You skeptics are just looking for lame excuses to ridicule God.

===edit==

BTW, cleaning a well in a desert country is a life saver. You haven't been to the Middle East, I see.

===edit2===

If the bears killed 42 youths, then obvious there were more than 42 people there, as the bears probably didn't kill them all. The gang could have easily been over a hundred (2 Kings 2:23-24).

And why is it bad that the two bears attacked a teenage gang that was threatening and bullying an innocent old man? You obviously never considered that. YOU are cruel, not the helpless old man.

Sure it's a miracle. A comparable miracle today would be for a parent to take one of their foul mouthed children who was hanging out with their friends and swearing up a swarm and to put them over their knee and give them a sound spanking.

Of course in today's society where we are told that right and wrong are personal ideals with no absolutes, and that children are their own people who need to find their own way in life and not be subject to the morality of their parents that kind of old fashioned discipline is looked down upon. That's what happens when people become wise in their own eyes and fail to do what God tells them they should do.

Didn't he also kill 40 some kids?

Were the children killed or just mauled for their insolence and disrespect of an adult and a prophet of God at that?

2 Kings 2:24 And he turned around, and when he saw them, he cursed them in the name of the LORD. And two she-bears came out of the woods and tore forty-two of the boys.

Proverbs 23:13 Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. 14 If you strike him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol. 15 My son, if your heart is wise, my heart too will be glad. 16 My inmost being will exult when your lips speak what is right.

See here is a perfect example of some who ridicules the Bible yet knows nothing of the bible but just a surface comprehension -

O Little one how long shall we endure you!

The children were not just mocking Elisha they were in fact say that he was powerless, and that at the same time they were saying that his God was also powerless. So to show that God is the one who empowered Elisha he called down a curse on them. Do not mock God it doesnt pay.
