Sit ups won't help. To perform static trapeze you must gain core strength. Try bridges. Position yourself, face down, on elbows, hold body rigid with back straight and elbows and toes being the only points of contact to the ground. (Similar to push up position) Hold for 15-20 seconds. Hold position and move to rest weight on right elbow only. Hold for 15-20 seconds. Switch to left elbow and repeat. Deep breaths throughout are essential to the exercise. Complete 3 sets everyday.

To actually build strength in the stomach, crunches alone are not the answer. Instead try 3 lots of 15 crunches with a dumbbell held against your chest. Over time increase both the weight and the reps. This will actuall develop ab muscles, not just tone them.

To gain muscle tissue, you must force the body to add it.
You need to give the body a reason to make improvements.
You have to provide a stimulus. You can do this in any of several ways. Basically, you must force the body to add muscle by subjecting it to levels of stress it is not used to. Some methods are more obvious than others, but all can work.°
