For a while now, my dog has been waking up in the middle of the night and is getting sick all over our dining room floor. It's not vomit, it's diarrhea, and this morning my mom said she's getting rid of him. Does anyone know about a health problem my dog might have that makes him go? Please; I really love my dog and would be heart broken to see him be put in a shelter. If there's a treatment that might cure him of this unfortunate habit, please tell me.

Take the dog to a vet. If it's not parasites or something like that, ask about other digestive problems. You might also consider other internal issues. I had a dog several years ago that had the same kind of problem with diarrhea. He would go in the house twice a day almost like clockwork. Once at night (early morning) and once in the afternoon. I thought it might be a reaction to the rawhide chew toys I was giving him or maybe a reaction to his food. He finally got so sick that he wouldn't get up.

When I took him in to the vet, they thought it might be gallstones and referred me to a specialist. On further inspection, however, it turned out to be a prostate problem. Long story short, after a biopsy was done to rule out cancer, it was determined to be something called benign prostatic hyperplasia...basically a very swollen, infected prostate. Some heavy-duty antibiotics cleared it right up and he lived another 6 years to the ripe old age of 14.

If he has this problem every night there is obviously a health issue. Probably worms. Take your dog with a fecal sample to your vet and get things checked out. Constant diarrhea is not your dogs fault. I'm sure he does not want this to happen either. You just have to find out the cause and then treat it and then all should go back to how it used to be.

This could possibly be 'Giardiasis'--it's an infection in the intestines. If your dog drank 'stagnant' water or was exposed to another dogs fecal matter who was contaminated-he could easily have picked it up.
By giving the pup 'Metronidizol'/'Flagil'(?)--it's practically 'cured' over night-though, you must follow through with this treatment for at least a week. (it's a tablet given by body weight twice daily) Again, it's a FAST and very inexpensive treatment!!
My advice: take a fecal sample into your vet to be sure.

Wow, this one is a little obvious.. Take him to the vet and have him tested for worms and parasites.. If he is clean, then ask the vet what the problem might be.. Might be as simple as the food you food.. Garbage he is getting in to.. I can understand not wanting to wake up to diarrhea each morning.. but I can't understand why you wouldn't think ' hey, let's ask the DOG DOCTOR ' ???

First, take the dog to the veterinarian. Chronic loose stools are bad for any mammal.

Does this only occur at night? Try feeding him first thing in the morning. If you're feeding him at night, he probably needs to potty in the wee hours of the morning. Another solution, get on his schedule for a while. Take him out to potty in the middle of the night. It's a pain, but if you love your pup, it will be well worth it.

Also, help your mom. Tell her you will take the dog out at night and clean up any messes.

First of all, it is not normal for your dog to have daily diahrea, he needs to see a vet. Ask mom to invest in the vet cost, and a crate to put in your room to eliminate going potty around the house. Also dont feed after 6 pm, and take outside to potty at least 2 times after that and before going to bed for the night.
Best of luck to you

I agree with others. Take him to the vet. It's not his fault he has diarrhea. There's something causing it, and when he needs to go, he goes, just like you would. If you had diarrhea, would you have to go to the bathroom? It's just that your dog can't tell you that he needs to go before he actually does. It's your responsibility to make sure he's healthy, and it's not his fault you (or your mom) hasn't taken him to the vet to find the problem.

You have to take him to the vet to find out what is wronng! He may have worms, have you de-wormed him? He may have a problem with his intestine, have you tried feeding him intestinal formula, with some Canikur tablets in it? you need to cure the dog, not throw it away. A dog is a responsibility, in sickness and in health! Especially in sickness, where he needs you. Instead of treating him you want to abandon him? My god, this is the kind of people who must never get animals. Please never get another animal, I am sure your mum didn't want it in the first place, and she gave in to you. But this is exactly why I tell people not to make their parents get them animals. Animals have illnesses, problems, etc., that you can't take care of, your parents need to take it to the vet and pay for it and have patience. By the way, try taking him out very late at night and very early in the morning, so that he has pooped outside.

Your dog may be having a reaction to the food you have been feeding him. Its important that you do not feed your dog from the table, but do feed him a high quality dog food. If its a puppy then you need to be feeding him puppy food. Take your dog to the vet to ensure that there is no type of intestinal issues going on.. no worms etc... Good luck !
