We were screwed the day they went in.

There was a widely dispersed article by Afghan-American Tamim Ansary who was well in touch with what was happening, had listened to what Bin Laden had been saying, and what he wanted.

And what he wanted was the US tied down in Afganistan the way the Russians were tied down, and then bleed us white. That is what the CIA taught and it had worked very well with the Russians. Bush did him one better by invading both Afganistan and Iraq, and gave him more than he could possibly have dreamed.

On the day the US invaded Saddam also laid out what the facts would be. (Something not many want to remember) that taking over Iraq would be very easy as no other country could stand up army against army. But that Iraq would be ungovernable and that America would bleed to death in Iraq and not be able to leave. Saddam may have been a monster but he was not a stupid monster.

Bush on the other hand .......

Everything has a cost. If by being "screwed" to stay there, it costs us 2000 lives over 3 years, then it's a worthwhile cost to create a democracy in the middle of that region which will eventually serve as a role model.

Note: 2000 lives is bad, especially if it's one of your friends, but it's very tiny compared to 50,000 (Vietnam) or 200,000 (World War 2).

If we stay more of our troops will loose their lives, and nothing is really getting done, but if we withdraw all the troops that have have already lost their lives will be for nothing, and the terrorist will take over Iraq

It's a dammed if you do and a dammed if you don't so I'd rather be dammed because I did, situation.

We stay we lose people to war
We leave we lose people do to lack of action / Terrorism
I say we stay because we will lose less people and protect the Free Nations of the World, because the more Free Nations there are the Stronger the Collective Freedom is !

if we withdraw we will look like cowards who can't finish what they started. unfortunately we need to see this to the end.
