wait for your hair dresser to do it, if you get the wrong colour then you could end up ruining your hair.

AHH! I had the exact same situation last week!! And it was a disaster. I was a brunette, and I've been putting in blonde highlights. A friend in hairdressing school told me that if I wanted to go back to brunette, I could do it myself, and so I listened to her. BIG MISTAKE. I went to dye my hair myself, and it turned ORANGE at the roots, because it didn't go over the dyed colour. I ended up spending MORE money to correct the issue!!

So even if you have a walk-in hairdressing place (I'm not sure if this chain is in the US, but something like "First Choice Haircutters"), usually these places are cheaper than going to a salon. It beats doing it yourself, because even if these people aren't 100% professionals, they've at least done it before and know what they're doing.

Take my word for it -- I had orange hair -- you don't want that! And if you're hair is long like mine is, one hair kit will probably not be enough anyway.

Good luck!

Unless you are good at dyeing hair already I would wait. If you have dyed hair a few times then you would probably be okay to do it. Be careful though, hair that has been bleached will absorb the color differently than the rest of your hair. Maybe try a slightly lighter brown than you are to start with and then go darker if you need to. Also you can always go to a local beauty school and it should cost you very little or nothing if you are brave enough.

You can do it yourself fine! Its the same dye! Just might take a few goes to cover the blonde. I went from blonde to dark brown and it took 3 goes. Make sure you do the colours a month apart so you don't ruin your hair

Well at home dyes are always a little worse than what the hairfressers use, but you should be fine. Go to the drugstore get a color that you like, and have your mom/friend do it for you, its hard to get it all over when you do it alone. Then a few days later, go get your hair cut.

Well dyes are'nt as good as having it done by a hairdresser... If you dont want to ruin your hair then wait till you've got the money- its not like you're in any rush is it???

it depends, when you say you have highlights i am presuming that you are bleached to the pale yellow stage and i will also assume that your highlights are untoned, in this instance you will need to colour your highlights with a red haircolour as when bleaching takes place it removes the natural pigment from your hair hence why during the process you go through stages of brown, red, orange/ginger, yellow to pale yellow so you will need to put that colour back IN to your hair, so after you have put the red haircolour in then i would suggest an ash brown which will work together with the red and give you more of a neutral brown. please remember to choose a colour brown that is 2 shades lighter than you actually wish to be as when hair is bleached it tends to become porous so it will make haircolour turn out 2 shades darker than on natural hair. please note: if you proceed to just put a brown haircolour on your hair without adding the red pigment back in then you will more than likely turn your highlights green.

This can be tricky, take it from me! I have black hair and once tried to go blonde. But it did'nt work, so attempted to go back to black, which took several months. It has a lot to do with how dark the colours are also, you could try listing here http://www.irecognisethat.com/show_question.php?question=Silver+cross+apron&id=230&random=yes I think there is a beauty fashion part.

You could put on a brown colour from a shop just bear in mind that where the blonde has been will be a lighter shade of brown.

you are better waiting to go to the hairdressers because i used to be blonde and the first time i went back brown i dyed it myself and my hair went a horrible shade of green and had to end up going to the hairdressers anyway to get them to fix it so def wait and get the hairdressers to do it

okay my hair was like as blonde as it could get and i had brunette highlights. and i sat at home and dyed the top half brown and the bottom half black. and it came out fine. but if your afraid have your mom help you. no need to pay extra money when you can do it yourself.
