i have a impacted widom tooth and it started to hurt a couple days ago and cant really eat normal food because my mouth wont let me open them. im goin to the dentist tomorrow and i have a feeling that hes going to take them out. im not a fan of dentists and surgury, and i want to kno exactly how hes going to take it out? i read online that after they cut the gum they break the bone to allow the wisdom tooth to be removed? did anyone else have to break the bone below the wisdom tooth to exctract the tooth? how did they do it, drill, chisel? and does it hurt? also did u get stiches to fix the cut gum??

I had this done on two wisdom teeth at the same time. In my case I went to hospital and they put a needle in the back of my hand, I felt sick for a milisecond and then I was spark out cold. I was in a dentist chair when they did this.

When I came round I was still in the chair, totally pain free. They gave me a bag with 3 teeth in it!!!! I asked them how many teeth they took out and they said two, so I said why are there three in the bag and he said, oh no thats a bit of your jaw bone!!!! Still no pain, just nervous giggles.

Doctor said eat some yoghurt and then go to bed, it will soak up any blood they you may have swallowed.

I went straight home to bed with no yoghurt and when I woke up I couldn't speak as my face was so swollen but still no pain.

Mother told me I was green and I felt really sick. I ate some yoghurt and fell back to sleep, still no pain.

When I woke up I felt absolutely fine. No sickness. My face was very swollen for a few days and I could only eat food from a teaspoon with the food levelled off or it all piled up on my top lip ;0)

I have had a few operations and even had a tooth removed whilst awake and this was the easiest of them all. ITs no big deal, all the horrible stuff happens when you are unconscious and the rest of it all heals up when you sleep.

I even went back to college with a swollen face a few days later and won student of the year, so it doesn't stop you doing anything at all if you dont mind looking like a guinea pig for a few days ;0)

The anaestesia (sp?) works like a charm. You don't feel a bit of pain. However, you still physically feel what they are doing to you which can be distressing. If the teeth han't sprouted, which was the case for me, they cut the gums. Then they do some drilling, then they rock the tooth with pliers, and finally they push hard on one side to dislodge the tooth. It is in these moments that you really appreciate how firmly your permanent teeth are lodged in your jaw. Finally, they stich you up. It's serious punishment to the jaw, and indeed when the numbness wears off you'll have to pop painkillers for the next few days, but I don't really know about BREAKING the jaw.

I had it done and it's really not that bad....They give you enough shots so that you don't feel a darn thing. They cut the gum open and drill the tooth into a few pieces. They removed the pieces and stiched it up...The stiches are absorbable and will pop out in their own...They will prescribe pain meds and antibiotics. You will have to keep cotton in your mouth until the blood clods....It's a little weird for a few days but heals really quick...

All of mine have been removed. For 2 of them, I went to a dentist that specialized in extractions, got a needle in my arm and when I awoke it was all over.

For the other two, went to my regular dentist and received a local anesthetic. One was hooked around the jaw bone. The bone wasn't broken, but the tooth was crushed and taken out in pieces in order to get it out. I felt a lot of pressure, but no pain.

The gum will be stitched to promote healing.

I recommend that you start taking whatever pain killer the dentist gives you before the anesthetic completely wears off. That way, you'll avoid any residual discomfort after the anesthetic is gone before the pain killer kicks in.

hi. i had all 4 of mine out at once. They had to break the wisdom teeth up to get them out but not the bone below.
there were a couple of stitches put in 2 of the holes. Was sore for a few days after but what a relief having them gone!!!
Good luck tomorrow! You will feel better having them out
PS>>> I was put to sleep to have all mine removed because they were a tough job to get out. Freezing was also put in. No worries. You'll be fine

Your dentist won't do it. If he decides you need this procedure, then he'll refer you to an oral surgeon. I've had it done to all four of my wisdom teeth. Honestly, I don't know how they do it, but I do know that it hurts! BUT... recovery is 100%, they give you a lot of pain pills, and you're usually as good as new in a couple of weeks. It is DEFINITELY better than letting those teeth crowd the rest of your teeth and cause you pain for the rest of your life! In any case, being that your dentist won't do it when you visit tomorrow, relax, and write down all your questions. He'll be able to answer all of them better than we can. Good luck!

Its no big deal anymore, they have gotten really good at it. If you are nervous, spend the extra money for nitrous oxide in addition to the novacaine. I've had several oral surgeries and none of them have been bad at all. Don't worry about it any more. They'll give you a codine or vicodin prescription in case it hurts afterward.

They will cut them out, all of mine were impacted also. You will have stitches. I also had bruises on my cheeks afterwards. It isnt as bad as it sounds. You will be asleep, and they give you heavy pain killers.

It is painless. You have nothing to worry about. More worry only causes more stress.
