it was fast and it cornered me, it was shaking it's tail fast and making a rustling sound, black with a petrol blue sheen, and if it wasn't threatening me I'd have said it was sort of beautiful, I woke up before it attacked me.

It all depends in the culture you are born and brought up in. But generally….
In dream analysis, snake is always a symbol of 'sex'. May be you have some kind of desires and passion for sex which you are trying to hide.
OR,
You may be seeing a tan’ girl and there are some problems which is annoying you. You will be alright with in a few days….don’t worry be happy.

In the long run the snake may be a positive symbol; it may represent difficulties that lead us to the center of personality and result in feelings of completeness.

Snake

To see a snake or be bitten by one in your dream, signifies hidden fears and worries that are threatening you. Your dream may be alerting you to something in your waking life that you are not aware of or that has not yet surfaced. The snake may also be seen as phallic and thus symbolize dangerous and forbidden sexuality. The snake may also refer to a person around you who is callous, ruthless, and can't be trusted. As a positive symbol, snakes represent transformation, knowledge and wisdom. It is indicative of self-renewal and positive changes.

Allah (God) knows best!

The snake obviously represented a penis, and the fact that you were running from it represented you repressing your homosexuality.

Analysis: You're gay.
