I work for mental health, in Health Information Management (medical records) and I have copies of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Of Mental DIsorders editions !I, III, III-R, IV and IV-TR.

I wish I could find a DSM-I. I have searched on Ebay for about a year or so. I have only seen two or three offered on there in this time and I was outbid each time.

I don't even care if it's the original book, I'd be happy if it was copied on a copy machine or something.

It isn't really necessary, just personal interest. However, there is some use for my job since I sometimes have to interpret really old mental health records to help somebody get services, government benefits, etc.

Thanks.

You should be able to order one from the American Psychiatric Association. You can also check online like on Amazon, they often have people selling used, out-of print books in really good condition for cheap prices.

If you are just looking to borrow one, professors and most public, as well as, university libraries usually carry all versions of the DSM. If your library doesn't you can do the interlibrary loan.

Original copies of the DSM-1 (at the time, just called the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders...no numbering until the second edition) sell for thousands of dollars in professional and online auctions. You likely will never see one on Amazon or Ebay, and if you do, you probably won't be willing to pay what they're asking for it.

Luckily, someone has scanned and posted the entire book (first edition, first print) to the web. http://www.turkpsikiyatri.org/arsiv/dsm-1952.pdf
