Can anyone help me with this question?
On a previous question about what happened to Muslims between the time of their death and Judgement Day, this is what someone wrote (with no thumbs down).
"A soul that has been returned to the body is said to be in the Barzakh. The barzakh is a word that represents a place that separates this world with the final abode.
Souls go neither to hell or heaven. Not before Judgement Day."
Someone else wrote:
"Muslims believe in a life in the grave,Once the body is buried it will either experience pleasures in the grave or punishment in the grave,"
So how does this tie in with the idea of suicide bombers going to paradise and having 72 virgins? Do they skip this barzakh place? Or do they have to hang around in a coffin for the next few millenia (I'm hoping we've got a few millenia left) until the world ends?
I'm a little confused.

Lawrence of Arabia:
So where did this rumour about suicide bombers getting 72 virgins in paradise come from then? Is it just media hype?
They're running a really good recruitment scheme if it is!!

how is asking you questions about your religion and trying to understand it insulting? I would have thought it would be showing it respect. Chill out, chick.

Nothing in the koran specifically states that the faithful are allotted 72 virgins apiece. For this elaboration we turn to the hadith, traditional sayings traced with varying degrees of credibility to muhammad. Hadith number 2,562 in the collection known as the Sunan al-Tirmidhi says, "The least [reward] for the people of Heaven is 80,000 servants and 72 wives, over which stands a dome of pearls, aquamarine and ruby."
You're allowed to enjoy things the koran explicitly denies you on earth, such as alcohol, and you won't even get sick. ("Wine . . . delicious to those who drink it . . . will neither dull their senses nor they will become drunk.") Granted, the whole thing is skewed toward the male idea of a good time.
Does this make islamic cosmology "unsophisticated and juvenile"? Maybe. (Oh, let's not be lame about this. Of course it does.)

Barzakh is either a peace of heaven or a hole of hell... "النار يعرضون عليها غدوا وعشيا ويوم تقوم الساعة ادخلوا ال فرعون اشد العذاب" "The Fire; they are exposed to it morning and evening; and on the day when the Hour upriseth (it is said): Cause Pharaoh's folk to enter the most awful doom." 40:46
There's nothing called "Grave torture or joy" it's actually Al Barzakh, which was seen By Muhammad PBBUH in Al Israa wal Meeraj.
I really don't know, are you mocking or not, but there's nothing called 72 virgins, I don't know where did you get that number from; people.
When the man dies the soul goes to barzakh, and when it's back to the body in doomsday, it forgets all about the barzakh period except good people. They remember and feel tranquility.. While evil beings feel astonished and terrified.
Edit: Yes, it's just media hype...

I read about this one suicide bomber in Pakistan that blew up the front of a hotel or something to kill a bunch of foreigners. When they interviewed his family, they found out that there was no political or religious reason for him to do it;; rather, he was extremely poor and his children were starving and begging, and he was approached by some fanatics that offered to pay him so much money that it would take care of his wife and kids. For him, it was an economic choice. I think we shouldn't just assume that people who do this are crazy - sometimes there are other narratives we should look at.

Muslims believe that after people died abd buried, they will be in the grave until the end of world. After that, people will be resurrected, and they will be in barzakh, waiting for the time to be judged, will they enter paradise or hell.
And everyone will pass this step.
And please stop the rubbish about 72 virgin, it's not mentioned in Quran.
I hope you are still have heart and stop insulting other religion.
May God guide you

you are right what you have stated on your explanation for your question.Alam barzakh is a waiting room before all of us will judged by fair and final judgement by Allah after resurrection day..In the alam barzakh we can receive a God's reward or punishment as stated in the holy Qur'an and Hadith.
Suicide bombers are. not guaranteed to be in alam barzakh with Allah's rewards if their way is not in line with islamic teaching...If the suicide bombers are in line with the holy Qur'an and Hadith as a life guide they will go to alam barzakh too and they will not skip to paradise or heaven.Heaven and hell will be contained by humans after the final and fair judged by Allah..Muhammad pbuh saw the heaven and hell on Israa and Mi'raj only as a features shown by Allah to him.Once the body has been buried all of his/her family and relatives will go back to their homes and his/her wealthy left too.Only his/her good doings brought by him/her..So we should do the good doings in line with the God's life guide will bring us happiness here in the world and in the life after death.

I'm a little confused as to how 72 virgins (or people of any sort for that matter) would be able to fit in a coffin....

As far as I know... after one dies they are kept in their graves, waiting for the day of judgment. As for suicide bombers... they are not Martyrs but murderers! Suicide is forbidden and the recompense is hell. Allah (God) knows best!

rFrom my understanding, they are not martyrs...
In Islam that is not the right way, in way we must declare it first..and for sure you can't kill innocent people...
but who am I to judge them,,,it is all God's business.
