What if I wanted to pack canned food with me on my trip out of the country. Will I be able to bring the food if it were packed in my luggage and not carried-on? What about airfresheners/insect repellent sprays. Pretty random, but doesn't hurt to be cautious.

You can bring all the things that you mentioned as long as you are checking it in instead of carrying it with you..

Liquids, gels, creams that you are thinking of carrying on board should be in a 3 oz bottle only and placed in a quart-size ziplock bag.. otherwise, they might confiscate it.

You can pack canned foods in your checked luggage .. Some countries ban certain foods .. If you pack any food stuffs and it's not in your luggage when you reach your destination, then you know that it was not allowed to leave your country and/or taken into the other ... Or the Customs people in the country you are visiting wanted that item. I sent my sister( in China) some cornmeal from the USA by some friends who were visiting there... The cornmeal did not make it to her .(Chinese cornmeal is not ground as fine as USA cornmeal) ... You cannot pack aerosol cans of any kind ... they are explosives !!!!... You are not allowed to take anything on an airplane that could potentially down the plane

All those things are fine but they need to be in checked luggage because of their size. I wouldn't bring them in your carry-on because there's a chance they could be confiscated. You can take any food you want as long as it's non-perishable.

Yes, you can take everything you have listed as long as you check it in. But why drag canned food around with you? Buy it when you get there!
