Why do women like tall men?

Hello everybody!

I am 5'7" and therefore, I am considered very short for a man. I am still growing however (the reason I am so short is because my growth lags behind three years) - however, I swear I wouldn't want to continue growing if I could make that decision! I honestly like being short as I am - the only true disadvantage, however, is that women seem to prefer tall men. Why is this?

I often heard 'protection' as an answer, although this seems rather ridiculous to me. I am an experienced martial artist and a police officer, and while I'm probably more muscled than average, I have to say that I find fighting people my height to (overall) be more difficult than sparring or fighting against someone who is taller, much like how 5'6" Bruce Lee rather easily beat Muhammed Ali.

It's not that I mind, because I've never had problems getting dates with women both short and tall, but I just wanted to know the reason behind this.

I understand, Sexy Grandmother. My question was, however, why everybody likes a tall mate? (Well, not everybody - I certainly don't!)

While height is one of the first things that you actually notice, I feel that a predisposition for a naturally athletic body (check) and high intelligence (check, I'm a Mensa member and finished university at the age of 17. And yes, I am a cop! Baffling, huh?) far outweigh height in terms of being advantages!

I prefer shorter guys so I can't answer this q for you. It is a bit of a generalisation though,there are lots of women out there who like shorter guys ,its a sexual prefence just like hair and eye colour or weight .

Even though you don't want to hear this answer again, I'm going to have to go with "protection", although I see your point 100% that height has nothing to do with protection. It has to do with a perceived notion of protection1

Just like who do women like more--men with money or men who they THINK has more money? If you see a man in a nice suit driving a crappy car out on the street, you're going to think he's a poor man in a nice suit. But if you see a guy in jeans and a tshirt in a hot car, you're going to assume that he's a rich guy driving a nice car. You don't say, "Oooh, look at the guy driving that crappy car!" You turn the other way. But when a girl sees a guy in a hot car but crappy clothes, she's going to think he's rich but just likes to drive casually.

It has nothing to do with being materialistic, really. It's about trying to find the best mate to keep your genes in this world. It all comes down to our genetic holdover back in the caveman days when protection meant that your family continued to produce while other, less strong families were obliterated.

I know it may not make much sense, but I think any girl who is going to like you is going to like you for yourself, not for your height. However, as you said, that's not an issue since you get girls anyhow! :-)

when i was little i use to look up at my dad all the time and when i was with him i always felt safe cause he was taller and i think that's were women get it from. the taller they are the more protected they feel i guess

it isn't all women. You just notice this one a lot.

i prefer smart funny men - approximately my height - 5 foot four or so. it hurts my neck if i have to keep looking up all the time.

Anyways, girls like tall men because they're so big. Tall guys are like security blankets for us. But short guys are cool too [as long as they're not self-conscious about it].

for some women it is just uncomfortable for a man to be shorter than they are....it is a whole stereotyping thing...if you catch my drift...men are supposed to be big strong muscular and women small petite and fragile....blah blah blah....but there are women out just same as men that don't like your stereotypical partner....i wouldn't worry about it honestly

It's a stereotype..."talk, dark, and handsome," that doesn't apply to all women. I like my guys taller than me (I'm 4'9), and could care less if they're "dark" or not. You would be extremely tall standing next to me :-)

Well, you are tall to me because I am only 4'11. My hubby is about your height and I am completely happy.

Because some women think that the man should be taller because it is more masculine just like they want there man to be all strong and stuff

Because it ensure taller children, who have genetically more chance to get a mate as everyone likes tall partners.
