ok heres the deal yes a security system helps but do like i do dont have them mounted anywhere visable by walking past the car also dont take it anywhere not public to park if you are going to a party ride with someone ealse or put it where u can see it
and u can bolt down your box and make them rear faceing so they have to unbolt it to remove it ( to much trubble to remove more time to get caught )
just be carefull of wires gas lines ect..

You didn't say what type of car you have. Was the theft clean or messy. If you have a trunk release disable it. Maybe use a car cover with a cable lock.
Does the alarm page you? If not, you might want to upgrade.
Other common sense things, like not playing you stereo so loud before you park. A guy looking for parking or just cruising is letting the thief know that you have a good system. Roll up the windows and lower the volume. If your car looks stock it will help. Lots of bling bling on your ride also attracts thieves

When you mount the speaker, use the stock covers to hide the "good" speakers. Use a detachable faceplate, do not let any of the system visible hide everything. In turn down the system in hot areas, and before parking, do not call for attention at the parking time.

I'd suggest mounting everything securely with tamper-resistant screws. You can also disconnect the trunk release inside the vehicle so that it's only possible to open the trunk with the key or remote.
