Yes I did. Beetle Log Homes was the name. As someone said, only use logs/trees that are dead (from beetle infestation) and have been down for at least a year. Reason why, is that green or fresh logs have a lot of sap that will flow for some time, and will expand and shrink continually.

After they are dead, there is no noticeable shringage in the logs.

You have to find dead trees -- logs from insect plague. Felling trees will not be adequate and require a constant rebuilding. There should be kits available with the timber already squared and notched. ( I have only helped to build a vacation cabin for a friend in NM, and picked up on the general conversation ).

Haven't built a log home, but I learned in ecology that log homes are earth friendly in some ways.

As far as sites with log home designs and log home plans, try the site listed below. We are considering purchasing house plans from this company because friends recommended them. I noticed that they sell log home plans. Its worth a look.

I haven't built one before, but one thing I do know. Make sure you have all of the additions you want added to it when you build it. They are hard to add onto from what I've heard.

Also, I think every couple of years you have to treat the outside of them.
